Rebuilding my engine . Actually my block . Have new head from Sbr . Anyway I have had my Talon since 95 . Ac has not worked since probably 97-98 . Now that I have everything apart , should I remove or keep the ac . If I keep it I do not know how much it will cost to repair . Then again I have not had it for so long who cares . Then again I have two children 7 & 5 years old . Black roof = very hot in summer .

Well what is wrong with it? If it is a simple fix just fix it and recharge.

Being that you have kids and AC is definitely good for them on the hot days.

I dont know, you have been without it for this long already maybe just take it out.

I would start with finding what is wrong with it first and then go from there.

Sorry, I am not much help, kind of undecided.

Unless you want your kids yelling "Ice Cream Daddy", you'd better get it fixed. It shouldn't cost too much. Most likely you just need it recharged.

If it just a recharge . Should it have zero pressure , as in completely empty .

The refridgerant(sp) in AC systems doesnt ever go bad it just leaks out. If you have zero pressure you have a leak somewhere. If it is just an o-ring in one of the fittings it would be a simple fix but if it is a cracked condenser or faulty compressor it may cost a little more. You will probably have to have it vac tested to make sure it doesnt have a huge leak, then if that is good fill with refridgerant and leak detector(dye) and see how long it lasts. If it stops cooling you will take a infared light and look for where the dye is leaking out. I know at my work we charge $125 for a vac test and recharge, that includes all needed refridgerant and leak detector. Like I said though, if you have a big obvious leak the cost will definitely climb from there.

Sorry for the book, hope this helps.

I'd say go for the repair if it's not too expensive, I had a cracked line on my last GSX and it was only like $35 from the dealer, not bad. Having no A/C is rough here in the midwest, I'm sure it was super hot where you are last week too, damn humidity.

Both my DSM's A/C's doesn't work. I tried recharging, and used numerous of those so called "sealers". No good. It would blow cold for about a day and thats it. Also the quotes to fix my a/c are ridiculous (~$800 for one and a whooping ~$1100) for the other. One of the shops even told me straight up, "its not really worth it".

I heard a while back that removing the compressor, dryer, and whatever other a/c parts will drop about 50 lbs off a DSM... is that true?

I would say keep the AC if it is not expensive to repair, especially if your kids are overweight;) :D .
Otherwise if your kids and you do not mind the summer heat it would save you some money!

Your AC has not worked in about 7+ yrs. If its inexpensive I say do it and enjoy driving during the hot summer days. If the cost is going to interfere with your rebuild than maybe forget it.
