I need an opinion from DSM owners whether i should keep or sell my car. Iv'e been reading that i should be ready to dump 60k into it to make it reliable.

Its a 95 Talon TSI. 149000 miles. runs good. havent had any engine problems driving it to the next town and back.

I dont have a lot of money.

I think you are a bit confused. The 60k service you read about refers to the normal mileage interval for the vehicle's maintenance schedule. Some of the items included in the 60k are the timing belts, hydraulic tensioner, water pump, numerous seals/gaskets, etc. Many vendors sell kits for the service, like this one from JNZtuning (which does not include water pump): Timing Component Kit- 2g 7 bolt (1995) : JNZ Tuning

There are a number of threads on here already about what items should be checked and/or replaced when doing maintenance, like this thread here:http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/maintenance-repairs/364640-maintenance-list.html

If the car runs fine and you aren't absolutely certain (i.e. don't have receipts to show when it was last done) when maintenance was last performed, at the very least, the timing belts (both timing and balance shaft belt), hydraulic tensioner, tensioner and idler pulleys, and the water pump should be changed.

You need to put an upper timing belt cover on and get a BOV that you can recirculate back into your intake, as it appears it it is venting to the atmosphere and it doesn't appear you've got the right equipment to do so properly. You can read here about BOV venting: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/frequently-answered-dsm-questions/113858-venting-your-bov-atmosphere.html

It looks like a nice car, I see no reason to be getting rid of it unless you simply cannot afford to do those sorts of things. Hope you get things figured out and if you have other questions, make sure you do a little research first because the search tool is a wonderful thing, but then don't be afraid to ask.
