Has anyone ever seen the inside of a flexpipe collapse?
I just replaced my exhaust on my 1ga talon and I cut everything up to make it easier to handle to scrap it (btw factory cats here bring in 45 bucks!!!!) and when i cut it open next to the flexpipe (side closest to cat. converter the flexpipe inside collapsed (outside still intact) and there was only a hole three quarters of an inch in diameter to allow exhaust to pass through.
Car idles much better now too. could be this prob combined with full 3" stainless catless exhaust!!!!!!

no when i bought the car it had a rigged up flexpipe on it. Someone had takin a flexpipe that looked to be to big and try to close it up by over tightening it :nono: . so i welded it up and a couple other spots ahead of the cat only to find the muffler seam was toast along with a coupe other spots so i did the megan downpipe/testpipe/catback. i only found this when i started cutting up the old exhaust. any ideas what would cause this? ive never seen it before.

okay I wish I had takin a picture but I didnt......I did find out what happens is when you get one of those cheapy auto parts store ones which i'm guessing that one was the intake side of the flexpipe will eventually come apart at the crimp and the exhaust gases force the inside flex material to bunch up on the exhaust side (back side) causing it to choke up to only about a 5/8" to 3/4" hole!!!!
I hope this isnt a common problem. Not sayin everyone from a parts store would do this but a quick google search came back with enough hits to shock me!!!

No my guess a cheap autoparts store.
I just hate the fact that you could spend alot of time misdiagnosing a problem when crap like this happens
Problem is with me my car would idle high and drop down really slowly til warm now it still fires up high stays there maybe 2 or 3 seconds and idles down to maybe 12-1300 rpm til warm. Could have been the flexpipe.....but the thing is I replaced it with a 3" downpipe so could be a combination of the two just letting the car breathe easier.
I would have never thought that would cause a weirder idle ya know...

Atleast you figured it out on your own, instead of having a shop replace everything but. :D

So does that make anything name brand you buy from ebay now an ebay brand?
Like an ebay iphone or an 07 ebay f150 hahaha
hey everything ive bought from ebay has worked great for me and I saved money doing it.

Just buy a 2.5 inch flex section from extremepsi or any other vendor. Its made my vibrant and I havent had a single problem after replacing my megan racing flex section. Save your money and just do that.

already bought a full three inch exhaust buddy I was just sayin what I saw on the one I took off the car. It would need to be a 3 inch now anyways. I just dont know why they are really that necessary if the car was engineered well enough with the hangers wouldnt that give enough to not need em . I know for years and years cars didnt have em because they were front engine rear drive and had the torque or the engine side to side instead of front to back like with front wheel drive cars
ohh well.......
