I would like to know if anyone could post or refer me to pictures of intercooler piping for a 16G on a 2G. I'm getting my FMIC in a couple of days(waiting on UPS) and I am going to weld up some piping but the best route I can come up with isn't very promising. I don't care what I have to cut/bend to make this work as long as its not structural.

All of the pictures I have found just have a 90 from the J pipe and run along the front of the car to a U bend and then that hooks to the intercooler, then on the passenger side they used another U bend and then a 90 and some straight pipe to hook up to the throttle body.

As far as I can tell this is the best way on a 2G with a 14B/16G/18G/20G. If you can provide advice, some pictures, or something else please do reply. Thanks for the time.

I have thought about this many times, for when I get my front mount. Anyone have advice or pictures on how to run the piping on a 16g? The only way I can think of is the same way posted above.

The shortest route will always be the back door style. Straight up to the throttle body. One 90 degree off the j-pipe over to the intercooler, then another 90 to connect it. Very shory...and looks cleaner too.

When you say 90, do you mean silicone elbows? Or having the piping bent at a 90? I cant figure out which intercooler core to go with? Any suggestions? I know i want it to be approx 24X7X3, but i cant decide on where the end tanks should be? Top or bottom, on both the driver and passenger side, or if i should find a core that just has the end tanks coming out the middle on both sides. Or what size, i was thinking 2.5" on both ends, or 2.25" inlet and 2.5" outlet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Also, does anyone know how long and high i can actually go? I mean with the endtanks, how many inches, i dont mind losing my fogs if have to. Most intercoolers say 24", but thats not including the endtanks. Can anyone give me measurements of their intercoolers, and what they had to do to make them fit?

I cant find that exact core made by spearco, I dont think they make that size. I dont think your size core will fill the mouth of an eclipse bumper, anyone have the dimensions of the mouth of an eclipse bumper? Im at school away from my car so i cant take the measurements. I wouldnt mind this setup if i can find an intercooler that fills the mouth and has both endtanks on the passenger side, anyone know of an intercooler like this? The closest I can find is this Griffin intercooler, top to bottom, 24X8X2.75. And it says they dont offer the endtanks welded for the 24" intercoolers. Not sure why? Im not too sure i like this setup, with both inlet and outlet on the same side, anyone have pictures on how they routed the piping from a 16g to the drivers side inlet? Thanks again guys.
By the way here's the link to the intercooler http://www.roadraceengineering.com/intercoolers.htm

Well the AGP kit (usually one of the "Featured Products" links at top of this page) and the SlowBoy kit both use the same core and are a few hundred less.

Does anyone know where I can find a core like this, but with smaller dimensions? The endtanks are perfect, I dont need it to be 12" high and 3.5" wide, I think thats too big for my setup. The length is fine, but i wouldnt want more than 10" high and 3" wide. Any ideas? I would even go smaller than 10" high and 3" wide.

if you don't want a larger core like that, you'll never be able to get the "shortest route".

imagine if the endtanks were shorter, that means a shorter core would have to sit higher up in the bumper .. gross.

I dont understand what you mean? What do you mean by the endtanks being shorter? The height of them or the length of them? What does the size of the core have to do with short route piping? I dont need the "shortest", i just want it to be as short as possible.

put it this way, the core needs to be at least 10" tall to be able to have the top of the pass. side endtank to position itself to where the cutaway point is. If the core is any shorter, the bottom of the FMIC would be seen.. and it'd look weird

the red is conventional stock location routing, the green is short route routing for a side-side FMIC.

now if you will.. the black box is the opening of say, a 2gb eclipse bumper... as you can see it would look stupid if you were going with the shortest route..

Do you have the 12" and 10" marked backwards? If not, i dont understand your drawings. I appreciate your help, thanks alot.

no they're correct.

just think, since the 10" is shorter, it must be mounted higher up in the bumper. Given the dimensions, you may or may not see the bottom of the FMIC and leaev an exposed gap in the bumper.

that's really all that the drawing represents

I have a 97 GST and I'm trying to get a front mount as well but from the pictures I didn't see the air filter. I was just wondering about that. And are the pipe kits for front mounts on ebay anygood? I don't trust the intercoolers and I was wondering if the pipes are any good. :dsm:

Ebay has a few right now, comes with full piping.

this is a FMIC from http://www.johnnyracecar.com/

this pic was taken before the pipes were routed, but we were able to keep the fog lights and didnt have to cut the bumper at all. (just a really tight fit) it is short routed with U bends on both sides. we have been VERY happy with the results of the FMIC/dsmlink/650fic/evo3 @ 20lbs.

this is the 8" model from that site...

Do you have any pics of this with the front bumper off? YOu can fit a 8" with the bumper support? I thought i heard most you could was 7" but i guess not. If you can fit a 8" in there im buying it. I just wanna be 100% positive.
Thanks
