Ok... I did one of the little how to things here on DSM Tuners and somewhat developed a shifter that I love... but it makes shifting harder. It was to drill holes in differen't locations of the arms on the transmission to shorten the throw. It works, but it makes it more difficult. At the same time I significantly shortened my actual shift bar and changed its angle a little... so now the entire shift knob is almost lower then the stereo! And I have the stereo in the bottom slot! I love it that way... But I want my shifting easier...

Whats the best short shifter you know of? Ebay? B&M? What? Something I can possibly mod enough to shorten the actual height of the shifter...

I personally like my B&M since it reduces throw a bunch but does not reduce height too much. The whole point of having a sporty shifter is to reduce the movements you need with your hand, such as shifting gears or moving between the steering wheel and shifter. Before paddle shifters were invented, you can see that most race cars had their shifters really high... which I kinda want.

Why do you want your shifter so low anyway? It gets hard to shift because you're losing leverage.

I couldn't explain how much I hate tall shifters... No offence, I think it looks like massive donkey ass! My friend Curtis has a short throw shifter in his spyder... and I just cannot stand it what so flippin ever! All I like is the ease of the shifts...

And the leaverage isn't that much different with it shorter... If I put the cables back on thier stock location, it feels somewhat stock... except your hand isn't touching the roof to grab the shift knob! LOL...

LOL... I do like racing, don't get me wrong... But thats not what I want it for... I'm completely fine using my stock shifter for racing... I want it for style and feel. thats it!

Personally I think short shifters are overated. I have b&m in my 2g and it's ok, but effort is definitely up compared to stock. You also have to get used to going into third gear, it's harder to find with a shorty. IMO the best setup is the solid shifter bushings, stock lever, and a Greddy counterweight knob.:thumb:

my shifter is very very small, small enough that i had to take out the ciggarette lighter just to get into first gear LOL... Too much stuff to fix to worry about the shifter though

I bought one of ebay for 20 bucks. It's aluminum and about 2" shorter than than the stock lever and I then got a OEM 2G leather wrapped shift knob for $30. It feels great and is easy and quick to shift.

PS - I did have to go to a machine shop and have the base of the short shifter cut about 1/4". Took 15 secs and paid the guy $5. I'm happy

Alot of guys say OBX makes a good one too.

You will be surprised at how quickly you get accustomed to the added effort required to shift when shortening the throw. I stopped noticing it less than a week after I installed my short shifter.

I just put the shift linkage back to thier stock locations... not much changed on how short the throw was... but its soo much easier to shift now... I'm going to keep it this way till I get my short throw kit...

Any sugjestions on what kind? Since there are a few different kinds goin around.
