Is a B&M short throw shifter worth the money for ME?

Did you notice a difference with the cable bushing kit? I've always thought about giving them a try but I really haven't heard much about them. Maybe I should just give them a shot... especially considering Speed-Source is only like 5 minutes from my house. :p

I am using skateboard bearings. Changing gears now is accompanied by a satisfying thud, versus my torn and mushy factory cable bushings.

im trying to stiffen up my shifting a little bit and i just bought the 91 -94 symborski shifter bushings sbr underthe hood bearings. i also cut my 91 shifter to make it shorter! i was just wondering if a fidanza sort throw will help out at all, like meqaning help shortening the throw a little bit wb asap thanks bfrandon

I wouldn't get anything besides the B&M short shifter for our cars. I'd love to get a Megan racing short shifter but it doesn't seem like too many people have it, and if they do they're pretty hush hush about them. I like to hear what the people who own it have to say before I buy though and I've hear NOTHING but good reviews about the B&M shifter. When I go to get a short shifter, B&M is what I'm getting.

Also, I've heard bad things about the cheaper short shifters. (Rattling at high speeds, breaking loose, over throw, different threading for the knob etc...)

If you want to stiffen up your shift, get the STM solid shifter bushing kit. I have this kit with the Galant counterweight shift knob and my shifts feel very firm and responsive.

well. i ended up getting the B&M shifter and I'm really glad i did. it shifts awesome, and it was funny because my buddy with the same car got a 30 dollar ebay one, and about a week later the so called "weld" on it broke, so i got a sweet ass short throw and all he has now is two pieces of metal. thanks all for the input

A eBay JDM short shifter is fine, I have one in my car and it works perfectly and it's been in for like 2 years.

Most of the time, the clone is just fine. The China knock-off seems to use T6061Al which has a random grain, and poor (if any) quality control in their manufacturing process. Consistency is largely lacking.

One shifter may be great and the next may bend or break, but keep in mind you can purchase 5 of these for the price of one B&M. With the B&M, you know you'll get a quality product the first time.

I chose the clone and have been satisfied, so far, for years.

You're just playing it safe by buying an original B&M shifter. Everybody can decide for themselves if they want to risk it for the price differance.
The B&M shifter is a very nice piece though, but only really comes to its right if combined with the Symborski shifter kit! :thumb:

i was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the B&M short shifter. is it worth the money? does it have a stopper unlike the fidanza? just want to know overall opinions or suggestions on what short shifter i should get. i have a fidanza right now but i dont like the fact that i have heard that because it doesnt have a stopper that it is really easy to break cables and other stuff.

Ive had both and at least in my case it was night and day, the b&m is definitely worth it it feels a lot more firm than fidanza and makes it a better drive.

I myself have a b&m in my GSX,it is set it 50% reduction...Way more precise and I can't miss a gear with it...BTW I do have the symborski shift kit and brassunderhood bushings installed as well....

2g shifters unlike 1g's don't have bumpstops...

I have my B&M short throw at 50% and it works awesome. You can really tell when its in gear and is not sloppy like my old one. I love it. Even though I didn't want to fork over the extra money for it, in the end its worth it I think. :thumb:

does the b&m have a stopper? ive heard there should be a stopper on the shifter but i was looking at it and is the stopper built-in to the cables or something? can someone please explain this???
