whats up fellow dsm's im planning on going turbo with a stage 2 kit, i was wondering if i should go with a long or short block:hmm:
 
you really need to explain what you are talking about. are you talking a motor from some builder, or you building a motor? what are your goals, turbo size etc. if we dont know we cant help.
 
im planning on building a motor reaching 250hp or more if possible and from the info ive been reading many recommend mitsubishi 16g or 20g turbos........what do you recommend or
 
250 should be pretty easy to get. a 16g would be fine for you, 20g would be way to big for your goal. a stock rebuild with some arp hardware and good bearings should handle 250-300hp without a problem. just make shure you have the support for the turbo setup cause your starting with a car never designed to be turbocharged. fuel system, tunning, etc..

While I don't quite understand what you're asking, it appears as though you don't know your terminology. A short block refers to the lower half of the engine, including the engine block, crankshaft, pistons and rods, etc. A long block is a short block, plus the cylinder head, camshafts, valves, etc. So, if you're asking which of the two you will need to upgrade in order to reach your goal, the answer is probably just the short block.
 
ill go with the 16g, are there any manufacturers that make a better block to stand higher psi and i always thought short block meant like shaved block but that puts me in my place
 
at those power levels you shouldnt have to wory about block strength, it should it just fine. just make shure you do a good quality rebuild and you have the proper support for a 16g and should be alright. your pwer goal isnt that high at all, so an all forged motor would be a waste of money speng on the fuel system and tunning gear. just be careful with the boost levels the 16g can easily crank out 20+ pounds, and it sounds like your not really ready for that much power. there is alot more to making horsepower than it sounds like you are ready for. not knocking you, but i just dont wanna see you junk your motor be getting boost happy and not being ready for it. start small and go from there as you get more experiance with tunning.
 
The guy who reccomended a 16g was thinking of a 4g63, it's practically a bolt on. You don't just throw a turbo on a 420a and call it a day... Do a lot more research before even thinking about "going turbo".
 
he has a really good point its alot of work to make a non turbo car into a turbo car. i hated goin through it on all my budies hondas. couldn't convince them the should switch to a real car, but its ok cause they are stil trying to catch me:D. but like he was saying its alot of work just make shure you are ready for it. if its your daily you may want to focus on staying all motor, and trying to find a turbo car to start with. it would be alot better of a base to start from.
 
I used to be one of those honda people but test drove a gsx and was hooked been smoking my buddys prelude ever since

Look up kits such as the HAHN stage 2 which is the stage 1 plus an intercooler. That should get you into where you want to be and you dont have to do anything to the engine unless you want or need to rebuild the engine.

To answer your question...short block is all you need with forged pistons/rods if you are rebuilding.

If you don't wanna piece together things yourself, CI Motorsports builds custom short blocks. Your choice of rods & pistons. Expensive, though, and you will have to wait a while before you receive it.. I hear their turnaround is terrible.

Grab some forged rods & pistons, new Clevite bearings, and have a respected machine shop build it for you. Stock head is fine.
