Shooting for 250hp on GST need a little help.

If he only want's a measly 250hp the car will be just fine as a DD. Also he could sell the dsm and boost his 240.

You have to take in the account money. DSM with just this lil stuff would be great on street and strip, but for a 420 you boost it you gonna be droping alot of cash in it to make it reliable.

Explain yourself.

Backpressure is provided by the turbo itself, so don't give me the old N/A talk that doesn't apply here. If anything, bigger exhaust would lead to faster spool which would move your torque peak EARLIER.

Oh and scavenging is also not really a factor here. Shortest, biggest exhaust is best.

Bigger exhaust sometimes leads to boost creep, 300hp goal is good enough with a 2.5" piping. Its not always about the size of anything in this game.

If your talking about money and being short on cash, a dsm is not for you.

I thought that this was for a GST (4G63) like the thread stated. Why are you talking about boosting a 420A now?

Yes a 2.5" exhaust is "good enough" for a 300 hp goal. But a if a 3" exhaust is cheaper and he is on a tight budget, then it won't hurt anything for him to go with the 3". I have a full 3" exhaust on a 14b at 14 psi and I have no problems with boost creep.

Bigger exhaust sometimes leads to boost creep? Are you joking? The number one way to eliminate boost creep is to OPEN YOUR EXHAUST. This means porting your O2 or opening up you waste gate housing or exhaust housing or creating a bigger exhaust.

If you are running a 14b at 16psi and put a bigger exhaust, you will not get boost creep.

You are a idiot....

They make this for a reason...
BOV
Exhaust (Turbo-back)
Intake (Hardpipe & K&N Filter)
MBC
Wally 190 or rewire stock
IC piping
14b
Gauges (Boost, Oil Pressure, & Wideband)

This should put you in the ballpark...

Thats very true I didn't think about that. But with that being said my all stock GSX isn't even reliable:mad:

I think what I was mainly trying to get across to him was that his 2.5" exhaust is more than enough to hit 250hp. Larger exhaust piping in general has been known to give more hp in the higher rpms at the cost of some lower rpms hp. He said he was told not to go to 3" because its for racing and I was trying to explain the rational behind that. I try to keep my advice simple, rather than explaining and debating every little aspect of it. And if the biggest exhaust is best, why stop at 3"? Why not go to 17"? Why don't you just get a coffee can and hook it straight up to your turbo? "Shortest, biggest exhaust is best" is an oversimplified explanation just like mine was and its not correct.

I have a 3" ehaust on my car, big 16g , set 20 psi and it goes up to 23-25 psi sometimes, unported housing and unported wastegate.

### DD and DSM don't mix. I learned the hard way and I now have a DSM that i can't drive

Dont blame the car much less the manufacture for you being a shitty mechanic.

All 4 of our cars are dailies...two true dailies, and the other two just dont get driven as much as they could because, well we have 4 cars and only 2 drivers ;) Until my son gets older anyways....

Oddly enough the car that gets driven the most is the fastest. So how you like them apples? just your average 500hp 11 sec street car. The biggest problem its even given anyone was a mis shift from 3rd to 2nd in a race kicked out 3 rockers. Replaced the lifters, stuck the rockers back in and away it went.

If your car isnt daily worthy its because you have half assed something if not everything. Dont be a bi*** and complain about it. Man up and fix that turd right.

End todays rant. :notgood:

+1 only reason my gst went down was because i was being stupid in it and blew a head gasket.:thumb:

and as for boosting the 420 why would i spend money on that engine when hp is pretty much at its limits it will run 10s when a GST can run 10s and still be drivin on the street?

put it on yours and let me know how much stuff you break.

Yea im just shooting for crank HP for now at least 200 to the wheels.

But a 14g is a Mitsubishi Turbo and is a stock upgrade for a Starion ill post the numbers for it below vs 14b.

This info is off of Evolutionm.

TDO5H-14B-6CM2 405 CFM
TDO5H-14G-8CM2 465 CFM

My friend is currently useing the 14g on his starion as i said and it spools super quick. And according to the AEM boost guage (so i know its good)
He runs about 25-26psi and it still pulls perfect. Only down side is the wastegate is blocked off from the factory so reguardless of what he does except building a custom downpipe flange thing he will keep running this boost.

I have been told buy some people also that 3in pipe is to big when you not going for race but i dont know nothing about exhaust.

I would but i built an engine that makes power... and i smart enough to figure out how to make more then 250hp without making the worthless thread about it.

Its funny my car probably makes over 250whp before it even hits boost.

Use the search button and pull your head out, its not hard to make 200hp...

Build the junk right the first time and you can daily drive it... Curt Brown DDs his 811awhp 94 awd... I have nearly the same damn short block. Aluminum rod is where its at, 3161 miles and climbing.

..... you arent supporting your theory, you do realize that right? You are creeping because of the back pressure being created because your exhaust is not flowing enough. To eliminate BOOST CREEP, you will want to PORT you O2 housing. Open your wastegate more and the exhaust housing on the turbo.

My theory was just with a 3" you will creep, my setup is dsm gt highflow manifold, s16g now and 2g o2 housing wih a full straight pipe....

Your completely right! I was blaming others for the fact that I can't drive my car. I bought my GSX about a month ago from an owner who didn't take care of it. I wasn't aware that that makes me shitty mechanic. I'm currently in college and I can't afford to be dumping money into my car, that being said I haven't and won't half ass anything just so I can save a few dollars up front only to have it break and cost me a fortune. No need to be an asshole because my newly acquired car isn't perfect. Congrats on having a DD btw, hope your feeling more manly now:applause:

hit 213whp on dyno then traded for stock tsi awd with jdm 4g63gte with 510cc injectors and 16g on it so i think i got a good deal.

Just get a 16G and shoot for 300whp

Honestly who wants a 250hp dsm these days?

FP sells a 20G for also 500 dollers!

Since your in school you should have learned something by now

when you do spend money spend it wise

You should have had the car checked out and if it comes with no paper or seems like it hasnt been taken care of........Well if it walks like a duck and qacks like a duck....then its a ####en pile of shit duck your gonna dump cash into

You can run tens in both cars and still drive either on the street

You can run tens in a 1.6 singel cam honda and drive on the street

You can run 10s in anything with alot of boost

Just because its a GST doesnt mean its gonna be that much more reliable when your pushing alot of boost

Both can and will break :ohdamn:
