I know this has probably been beaten to a pulp, and ive tried searching but not finding the exact information i need. Im trying to build a pretty solid DD with a track tune for weekends. Im somewhat on a budget now compared to when i started the build. motor is a 6bolt 2.3 strocker, head hasnt been modified but i plan on porting and ffwd dks2 cams. i basically need some information for supporting mods for a 500hp goal if possible. the turbine housing is a bep bolt on that i scored on craigslist for 150 new in a box. will this work? or would i be better off with a just an hx35?
 
Im actually glad you answered justin (turbo guru). when you say hx40 is that with a bep bolt on housing as well? or there t3 housing? what would you recommend for the head and cams? and fuel? I would like pump gas for the street and race gas tune for track.
 
You can use the bolt-on housing, sure. This housing has trapped 139mph on a 8-blade HX40 with a 2.0. The T3 housing would obviously offer better turbine flow but require many more custom-built parts (o2 housing, etc).

Not sure on the head and cams, although Dave gained about 6mph switching to a ported 2G head, CB-spec intake manifold, and Kelford cams this year over his previous unported 1G head. This is on a 2.0 as well.
 
2.3l and an hx40 go great, Im still on the bolt on housing and a stock 1g intake manifold and have trapped 130+ on pump and meth at 33psi. Im sure thats over 500whp, and im no tuning guru either so there is more in the car im sure:thumb:
 
thanks for the input red. what are you tunning with? and what size injectors? ive got an aem ems and fic 880's and i have a choice of either 1g mani or a cyclone. are you still running the stock cams? im also starting to think these injectors wont cut it.

I use dsmlink v3, I would be lost with an aem. I maxed out 850's at 25psi with an 90+ duty cycle, and now run 1150's see about 70% at 33psi. I run delta (hks grind) 272s. I dont know much about the cyclone mani but I know the 1g mani has to go. Just orderd a jmf race mani! My head is also ported with 1mm oversized valves, but its an old port job done by bjs for a 2.0. I dont know how well it matches the 2.3 motor
