So I'm not sure which one to choose from. This is going on my daily driver. Money isn't a issue here, but this will be going on my 98 spyder gs 5speed I got yesterday for super cheap. It will have a dohc swap and black box for tuning. Just trying to get some opinions.

Hard to say. It depends what your goals are. Being your car is FWD, I would choose the top end happy hx35. I run the same turbo with a BEP housing and it is pretty good for daily driving. Low end spool helps with low end torque and has a very good top end. My power band feels like it could go on forever even though I shift usually around 7500RPM.

However, you will need to fab up a good return line or buy one from one of our vendors and if possible, monitor oil pressure at the turbo to make sure you're not over oiling. The Holset will require some extra things to make it work like the BEP housing and 4 inch intake, and you will have to bend the water pipe to make it fit.

Yeah i was looking here at the hx35 install.

My end result with the car is to have a fun dd and weekend warrior. I was thing of the hx35 because there's so many of them at my local yard for cheap. And I'll already have 1200cc injectors and stuff. I figure mine as well go ahead and go big since I'm right there at it.haha

Things you aren't going to find at your local junkyard:

- Bullseye Power .55 a/r DSM-flanged o2 housing ($320)
- 10AN/12AN oil drain ($70-$120)
- External wastegate and o2 housing with wastegate provision ($500)

As you can see, the turbo isn't necessarily the cheapest part of the equation in that case....where if you get a 16G or 20G, the stock internal wastegate controls boost just fine and the turbo can be mounted using the OEM oil drain.

The HX would be the way to go, even though the 16g is fun on a DD! The 16g would be a cheaper direct swap and more street friendly, but it's flow potential isn't as high as the HX35/40.

If you don't have every supporting mod, go with the smaller turbo till you get all your supporting mods, then upgrade.

A smaller turbo with all supporting mods will out perform a bigger turbo with no supporting mods.

It's really up to you the path you choose, as each path has it's own pro's and cons!

For a GST daily driver i'd suggest the e3 16g, as traction will be an issue, and you surely will start breaking things, like your clutch. Full boost at 3800 is very nice!

If you have a GSX or awd swap, get the HX35/40, traction isn't an issue at this point. But waiting for the boost after 4k may cause daily driving woes.

Because I have both close to me and for cheap. Plus I hear alot more about them than I do anything else. Lol I'm thinking of 16g and just slowly piece everything together for a hx35 build including 4g64 pistons. That way I can learn a little easier using evo scan and tactrix.

Honestly, it depends on how much money and time you want to spend to make it happen. The 16g will be easier, mainly because you can use a lot of stock parts like a 1g oil drain line, stock manifold/o2 dump, etc. But the holset will give you more power.
