Okay, so here's the run down... mods in profile are up to date...

Just got my car cranking and starting up today. Haven't worked out the kinks, but it's firing and coming online until I left off the throttle then it dies.

My real concern is that when I DO crank the motor, as it fires up and starts to run, I'm getting pops of fire from under my injectors/between the manifold and head...

WTF Anyone ever heard of this? My friend is saying it's because I only used the phenolic gasket without any sort of RTV or secondary gaskets for the head/intake manifold. I don't know how true this is, but I thought 'fire' should only ever go towards the exhaust... EVER! We thought it was just some unburnt fuel popping off from when I initially started cranking... but it's doing this often...

Anyone got any advice or guidance to offer? My only logical guess is to boost leak the system and see if there is a leak at the phenolic gasket and go from there... really stumped, and so close to having this biotch going. Just need some advice .... thanks!

i would check timing, the only way you should have fire from the intake is a valve being open, whether it be out of timing majorly or broken valve

I was thinking the head is potentially bad. The compression test came back at about 120 across the board on a rebuilt bottom end. I was just hoping that it was low because my bottom end wasn't broke in and the rings haven't set yet. I actually went and priced out a SBR stage 2 head already because I was just assuming that it was no good, but then I saw the 'fire' today and became really scared. Timing is dead set though. I mean, the motor turns over and comes alive. It even ran up to about 3.5k rpm the first time I actually got it to fire up and stay up for a few seconds... just worried about those puffs of flame...

Yesterday I went back to dicking with the car again. I went to zero out all my trims on Link and discovered for some reason my Ingition Timing was retarded completely. Zero'd it out and haven't seen the problem since. :thumb: Now, if I could just keep myself from retarding my intelligence.
