My tokico blues are blown and it's now time to replace them. I know there any many options for different budgets. I have I believe tein springs in there now. I read Chris post on the shock buying guide. He says the koni is the best options. Is he talking about the koni sport? The car is lowered and he said the koni is best for a lowered car. Or I can get a used set of tokico illumina with ebeich pro kit. Just wanted your thaughts on those options. I would like to stay around 500-600. I am planning on using the springs I have now unless I get a used kit. Also it's more of a weekend car with a occasional autocross/drag which is why a adjustable shock would be good.

IMO get a coilover setup and never look back. Megan racing street series coilovers is what I have now and it is an excellent ride. Not too harsh and eliminates any bounce or soft rebound traditional shocks/struts will have. Not to mention height adjust-ability and dampening adjust-ability.

(note these do NOT come with camber plates and are not camber adjustable)

2Gs don't have camber plates. Period. Anyone that says otherwise has no clue what they're talking about.

As for a good setup, the Koni Sports (Yellows) are the best quality shock available for the 2G chassis. They can also be converted to a coilovers as well if you want to later down the road. They have excellent damping (note the spelling) and are somewhat adjustable. I will say that turning them anywhere near "full hard" makes for a ridiculously stiff ride.

There are a couple of other decent shocks out there as well, as noted in the Shock guide that you said you already read. As for coilovers, avoid the cheap ones. Most all of them have the wrong spring rates for a 2G, as well as crappy shocks, which makes for not only bad ride quality but also poor performance. I've heard decent things about the Megan's, but not from anyone who knows a lot about suspensions, so take that with a grain of salt.

I read that the koni yellows were discontinued. That's why I wanted to make sure the koni sports are the same thing. I also read that to adjust the tears you have to take the shocks out where the front you don't. I guess that's why people run koni in the front and something else in the back. I also read to keep the shocks the same all around.

Yeah, the rears require removal for adjustment. Still worth it in my opinion, but to each their own. I'll be doing the full Koni/HyperCo coilovers later this summer.

I would stick with the Koni Sports personally. Honestly, you shouldn't have to keep adjusting them. Once you find where they work good for you, just leave them be. This makes initial setup a bit of a pain in the ass, but at the end of the day you still have a better quality shock than an AGX or Tokico.

Depends on your spring rate.

I have 350lb rear springs and autocross with them at about a quarter turn to half turn from full soft. Fronts are 850lb springs with about one full turn from soft. Seem to have the best rotation this way. On the street, its quite a bit floaty so I end up turning both up a bit. This has worked so far for me.

I'll have to see what springs I actually have. I haven't taken the bad ones out yet. I want to see what other people are riding at with there settings. I really don't want to deal with the pain of adjusting the rears and installing again every time. I can't wait to get them.
