Has anybody shipped a manual transmission lately. Im going to buy one used but have to idea of the shipping cost. Its a 90 fwd 5 speed coming from tennessee to ohio.
Any suggestions on what to do?

buy a plastic rubbermaid tote thats not see through. Use UPS, and tape the hell out of it tell them its transmission parts.

I agree thats how I ship my trannys out. I bought several of the 150 gallon rubber totes. I layered several old boxes on the bottom and sides to fill it out. Then I taped layers of card board and bubble wrap to the tranny. Then I punched holes in the lid flange about 20 of them and zip tied the crap out of it. The cost is fair I have spent from 79-220 it all depends on who you use and where you send it. When you say handle with care to them them say ok to your face and when it gets out back they commensurate with the blasting of the fragile stuff. I know people that work at ups usps dhl and fedex. They make no bones about saying nothing gets special treatment. It just slows us down they say. You have to pack expecting it to drop three feet and hit the ground. go to the shipping web site and use the calculate shipping. The tsi awd trannys w/o trans case weigh out to 120 lbs. Maybe a little less the fwd trannys prob 100 or less

I shipped a 90 FWD from NC to PA using Fedex freight for $85. It was 140lbs crated up. I have an acct and get 75% discount there. Most people w/o an acct get a 50-60% discount.

This was last summer when gas was over $3 IIRC.

I just posted an add for a transmission I need to sell. It shifts perfect, better then the one I installed. Its got a gsx written on top 90. The number stampings say N.
