So, I am putting back a motor that I never ran. Doing some custom stuff. I've rebuilt 3 4g63 engines, but all close to stock before. I am putting a 2g head on a 6 bolt block. The head came with aftermarket cams. I have never been able to positively identify them. It also had same small washers for shims under the HLAs, but when all was said and done, I only had 12 on hand. I also want to replace the 2g HLAs with the 3g ones I have.

Question- Do I just replace the washers with 4 more of similar thickness, or is there an official measurement procedure to determine the proper shim thickness?

You should measure the base circle of your cam lobes vs stock. That measurement Should tell you if shims are needed

Do you know what the stock cam measurement is? I'll go try to look it up, but figured I'd ask too.

I'd love to ID my cam. Maybe when I start taking some measurements I can figure it out.

Well, I measured mine and was not happy with some of the differences between the lobes. I saw .010 differences between some of the base circles and .010 differences on some of the lifts.

Trashed?
