Is the shifting cable in a 97 eclipse the same as the same year evo, eagle talon, and Plymouth laser or do they all use different shifting cables

It's the same as the Talon for that year/model.

There were no Lasers in 1997, and the Evo units are different.

The cables are discontinued at this point, but the part you're looking for is MD770982 assuming that you're talking about a 97 GS-T/GSX, and not a 420A car.
