I have a 1991 eagle talon and have finally got the engine running decent. My current issue resolves around shifting, I took it out last night and when nailing it it would fight me both in up and down shift.

I have been doing some reading and it appears that most people are suggesting either brass bushings or skateboard bushings and say that typically resolves the issues.

I have also been doing some reading about adding a short throw shifter into the mix.

I would like some of your opinions on how I should proceed.

I would keep it stock even with aftermarket bushings I still had issues I needed to adjust the clutch. Could be a number of things, like how is the clutch components. How hold or new.

The bushings in your shifter cables( whether on the shifter side or transmission side) are not affected by engine speed, sounds more like worn out synchro rings or a maladjusted clutch.

If you're having trouble shifting, I would bet on a clutch adjustment issue before shifter bushings but you haven't really given much info so it's hard to diagnose. Why are you immediately pointing to shifter bushings?

I was leaning to the shifting linkage due to it sticking even before I start the car and through typical driving. It is just really prevalent when gunning it.

I agree that the clutch probably does need to be adjusted and that is already on the road map but a lot of post knock the original bearing due to them being rubber and giving after a year or two. This car was and still is a project car that came to me needing much love.

I greased up the linkages and that helped a little but I was just thinking that going after the bushings would be the cheapest area to tackle.

Thank you for all of the tips, I read some articles and watched some videos and am planning on bleeding the clutch system with some new royal purple fluid and adjust the clutch. Hopefully these will resolve the problems. If not I will go with replacing the bushings.
