Ok I just rebuilt my engine and so I put my transmission back on (and it shifted just fine when I had it on the car last) but now it will not shift over to the left its like it is hitting something (The transmission is stock by the way) . When we were putting the motor in we had to pull it back out for a second and one of the shifter cables got caught and it may have stretched one of them. But would that make this happen....the cable looked fine after it happened. But the thing is that the shifter will not go left it does go to the right and shifts into 3 4 5 R or could it possibly be that some how it may have shifted everything over and the shifter is going into 1 2 3 4 and it is just not enough room for it to go right any more?

Thanks,
Justin

I would check to see if the cable is binding since the only thing that is diferent, other than the transmission being rebuilt, is that the cable got messed up.

Also check the cables underneath of the shifter to see if they are allright, a bolt might have just come loose or something may have gotten in there. Worst case scenario is you pick up a new set of cables..

I did not see any binding and it just looks like it wont go far enough over to the left. The tranny is not rebuilt it was on the engine I rebuilt and it worked just fine when it was in there before the engine rebuild. So I am guessing it is the cables but does anybody else have a clue?

Try removing the shifter cables and putting it into 1st and 2nd gear manually by pushing on the lever with your hands to see if it will go into 1st and 2nd gear. Another thing you could of done cus ive done it myself is crossed the cables meaning i put the cables on the wrong lever..its an honest mistake :D

this just happend to me when i swaped my tranny it actually was the bracket i bent it when i was removing the tranny just bent it back into place and shifts perfect again. Hope thats your problem

Which way do I need to bend it cause I picked up some cables and its the same exact thing again. Thanks Justin

im not really sure wich way you bent if you did bend it, did you change that bracket at all because they are diffrent from a 90 to a 92

mine was doing same thing but not going in to 5th. it was the linkage bushing. change them with brass ones. also have friend move shifter around and look at linkage on top tranny. sometimes you can see if there is movement the wrong direction. it could be just loose bolt.

idk i looked at it a couple of times and it seems that the cable that makes the shifter go side to side is not going far enough forward but it looks like it is as far as it will go.
