ok so when i first got the car i had trouble with the shifter... it was really hard to move it side to side (wouldnt spring back into the center), so i went and got new shifter cables awhile back and decided to do them this weekend... well what a pita that was LOL, but i got it done.. but its still doing the same. its really stiff moving right to left, up and down is fine. anyone know what would cause that? and is it an easy fix or no?

My two 1990's had the same problem. It seems to happen from the car sitting for a period of time. It is the linkage that comes off the transmission (where the cables attach) that is binding up, not the cables or shifter itself. I sprayed some rust penetrant on mine and it loosened mine up enough to drive them around. Once you drive them for a while, it will get looser and eventually back to how it should be. You could also take the linkage off the trans and clean it all up. But my way is way easier and less time consuming.
Good Luck!
