Toronto,
Is this normal?

I get alot of shifter play when the car is in gear. When in 1st / 2nd gear, the shifter plays to the right, maybe 3/4". 3rd/4th/5th/rev play to the left 3/4" Is this normal?

I too have the same shifter play, I cant figure it out.. I've done all the mods to the car in car and under-hood. I checked another thread where using a 97 + shifter fixes it. I can't understand how this could be but i guess its worth a shot.

Does the shifter move on its own while under acceleration or does it just have play where you can move it around? If it moves on its own, you need to pull the side cover off of the trans and check to make sure the nut on the end gear is not backing off. Here's a link to help: http://www.geocities.com/qwik93awd/Vfaq/shifter.htm If it just has play, you need to do the shifter bushings.
