THis is my first DSM, I have a 93 Talon TSI. I noticed that the shifter for my 5 speed is very very soft, I also drive a 2003 MSP, 90 Supra and 96 Tercel all of which are stiff with clear definition between the gears. The gears go in so easily, it feels like crap! I do not like the feel, is there some way to stiffen the gear stick. I do not know if you guys understand what I am trying to say. Looking forward to credible input.

Couple things you can do for a nicer shifter feel. Add a short shifter, b&m is very nice for a 2g, is 1g the same?, replace the rubber busings with urthane or metal ones under the shifter plate & replace the rubber busings on the shifter cable ends at the transmission with urthane or ball bearings.

I run the B&M shifter, urthane shifter plate bushings & ball bearings on the shifter cable and the car shifs amazing, even better then the more expensive new sports cars.

That's the first time i've ever heard that about a DSM..
Well it sure doesn't shift sporty. Thanks a lot for the suggestions I will have to look for these bushings someplace...

There are a lot of things that can make shifting difficult, before you go buying any parts I would suggest going through the entire system. Replace anything that is worn and make sure everything is tight.

Properly adjust clutch
Properly adjust shifter
Check pedal assembly for wear
Check clutch hydraulics
Check shifter cable bushings for wear
Inspect clutch fork pivot ball(require tranny removal)
Correct fluid. The fluid has to be GL4. It can't be GL5, it can't be GL4 AND GL5, it has to be straight GL4. Redline, Pennzoil syncromesh, etc.
Clutch has to be in good condition

Shifter movement fix (this was by far the most noticeable improvement for me, the two 36mm nuts were finger tight)

No, we're not as cool as the 2gs, but fidanza does make a short shifter for our 1gs.
