Well ive been searching for hours now on comparing to the problem that i have. Just swapped a 91 tranny into a 90. Me and my bro did everything slow taking our time to make sure everything was done right. I cant seem to find the problem that i have here on the site, ive been searching, a tranny specialist said to adjust the linkage but i cant help but think its something else. Well when the car is off the gears go in no problem. When the car is on, 1st and 2nd go in. From 3rd to reverse it scratches or grinds which ever you would call it. A good friend of mine sold me his talon an he keeps stressing that the tranny was fine before he sat the car out for years. Idk what else to do besides swap the shifter cables from the parts car to mine and go from there? Sorry if this has been anwered but i did not find the gear problems i have anywhere and please correct me if im wrong. Thanks for any suggestions.

loosen the bolts that hold the linkage, shift the linkage around a little bit, tighten the bolts and give shifting another try. You'll either make it better or worse untill you hit the sweet spot.

Alright ill go ahead and give that a try, im trying to get more info and study more before we get back on it since i barely noticed one of the cables the one on the right side didnt have an adjuster. Ill see what happens if i get to work on it today, busy sunday. Thanks

Just trnny and transfercase, i was wondering about the shifter cables if that wuld make a difference to swap out to, ill get on it tomorrow after work and see if i have any progress ive been messing with this car forever it needs to be on the road alredy welding skool really set me back.
