Shift lever will not move.

So while my 97 GS-T has been down I took my transmission (which has been previously been rebuilt by TRE) into the local AMMCO to have my wavetrac LSD installed. I got it back and did not think to check this at the time, but once I got the transmission back into the car and attached the shift cables I get no side to side movement. I Took the shift cables back off and on the transmission itself only one lever moves. I can move the weighted one into the forward, middle and back position but the select lever will not budge. Is there something they could have done that would cause the shift lever to be stuck or am I just missing something. I'm not comfortable taking the transmission apart myself (hence why I took it there in the first place) and I am not sure if a diff replacement would cause this issue. Someone with some transmission experience please chime in.

My money is on the aamco guys rushing to put it back together again, they likely missed something, don't do anything until you call the guys up that did the work, explain whats happening to them, and maybe you can get them to fix it at their cost. especially if it worked right before you gave them the trans, the lever that is not moving [the one you were referring to above] is called the select lever.
if it's not moving by hand [with no cables attached to it] then there is something wrong with the select lever or it could be something binding or stuck inside the trans case.

It's vary likely something was installed wrong, if the trans is out of the car right now there is no reason for you to do work a shop was paid to do right the first time...as long as you didn't open up the case there is proof you did not mess it up, they should cover this work for you for free, and
if you have receipts for their previous work bring them with you.

It was back in the car already before I realized this. I pulled it again last night and am taking it in to have them go over it. It should move pretty easily like the other lever and it's shifted beautifully when I dropped it off. I just wish I would have caught this before I reinstalled it.

Don't beat yourself up over it. We all over look or forget things. I do it plenty and always get mad at myself for being retarded. It's the nature of the job

Thre is really only one lever. The second "Lever" just moves the select lever shaft up and down . You should be able to push down or pull up easily

Check to make sure your reverse switch isn't Torqued down to tight, I torqed mine down to much and it caused my shift levers to bind up.

If its in neutral that wont matter as no rails move

I'd still check to make sure the washer is under the reverse light switch - it's a simple check and easy to overlook by a shop. If it's not and it's in reverse or 5th, it could get locked up. The factory washer is 0.037" thick however I know 0.040" works as that was what I've been using.

Thanks for all the responses. I got it back from them yesterday and it had been freshly cracked open because it had all new sealant. I asked him what had been done and he just said "I'm not sure I sent it to my builder" so I don't know for sure. It does run through the gears smoothly now so I guess it doesn't matter.
