Shift cable U clips

Hey guys, I have a quick question that I couldn't find by searching the forum. The Talon I just got had the shift cables off. So i figured easy enough of a fix. I will just clip then down with the pins and be fine. I went to shift through the gears and obviously found something was wrong. The U clip, or retainer, or whatever you want to call it was missing on the cable for the left to right movement. So i replaced it, no big deal problem fixed. I soon realized that the up and down shift cable was also missing the U clip because it's jumping around. My question is, what is the easier way to get it off my old talon and in my new one. From what I can see there is no room for me to get it off or on. What would be the easier way to get it?

Needle nose pliers. Grab the entire flat area.

Well yeah that's easy for the shift cable sticking out, but for the other one idk if I could get back there? And the other one was almost impossible to get off, so i'll need some room to work

Hah seems to be the only way to get these stupid things off! And I have no clue how I'm gonna get it back on if I even do get it off

Line it up and use a rubber mallet.

ive always used a big flat head screw driver

Big heavy flat head. And for install reverse screw driver and use the handle as a mallet.

So I finally got out to the garage with my massive flat head screw driver and pryed that thing up. Buuut it flew off and fell some where in my engine bay area. I've searched forever and I cannot find this stupid thing! Why are these things in such a bad location for N/T'S!!!
