Is he running a solid axle in the rear? I thought I could barely make out some type of solid axle anti-roll bar back there. If not anyone know what it is? Thanks.

Its a 9" ford. Its been in there when the car was full unibody. It is now a tubeframe car so it hangs in there a little better. It also appears he is running a 26x10.5 in the rear now vs the 26x8.5 all around like he used to and we currently are.

I thought it was still a unibody, but with a 25.5 cage.

I remember there always being a huge debate over what rear end he was using, and him saying to the effect of "its definately not a ford 9 inch but I'm not saying what it is"

a 25.5 cage would barely fit in a unibody if it was still a unibody. I don't know but I'm just speculating keeping the unibody would be kinda a waste

I remember him saying that on here as well.

8.8 unit maybe... It would have to be something that offers a 3.55 gear (8.8, 9in, Dana 60, 8.5, 12-bolt...) who know other than John? Point is that it is a solid axle if I understand ya'll correctly. That explains some things. As for the cage I would imagine they had to cut the lid off to get the halo tied in with a 25.5 cert. Love the rally inspired straight shift trans. Whatever he has done it is working. WOW, what a beast!!! :hellyeah:

No more unibody.:nono: It was twisting and flexing that unibody to no end, so he had to go full tube frame to keep it safe. The body panels have been meticulously hung back on the car to keep it looking as near to an original dsm as possible. Think of it as a pro-stock chassis under a dsm body.:D

Oh, so it's one of those cars now. Still awesome though.

I was already excited about the shootout and I have been hoping and speculating that he would be there but now that I know for sure I'm am even more stoked!!!!!!!!! I will be in Norwalk tomorrow evening!

He!! yea shep is the man! I wish it wasn't so far away. That would be so bad arss to see the Talon run.

Think a custom rear end like a Strange or something along those lines. Certainly not an OEM piece. For those curious, if you go to the shootout just take a look under the car. That is what I did and that is how I got my answer.

Should still be a steel body. They cut the floor out of the car essentially just leaving the upper shell of the car. There are pictures floating around the internet of it. It just has a whole lot of metal in it now making it much closer to a tube chassis. Again, just look for yourselves. I am sure people will have stuff posted for those who don't know after this weekend. Hopefully someone is smart enough to take detailed pictures.

Phil did a great job with the car.

That would be great for guys like me that are too far away from the car to ever see it go down track and that can't make it to OH..........so long as it's ok with the man himself :sneaky:

Someone please take some good pics and vids of the entire event for me

He is a normal guy, I don't see why not. He let my friend's daughter sit in his car in 2006. We are well past the days of secret race cars, turbos and magic tricks. With no racing series around, I am sure he would oblige if you just ask nicely. He did for us.

I wonder if Sheps rear is similar to dogbox racings evo rear. I believe dogboxs rear is like an 2003 mustang cobra rear. Really an awsome setup they came up with. Strong rear and still independent suspension!

my buddy at haggardfab.com did the rear end and front tube setup on the dogbox car as you can see it on his website. It is a upgraded 03 cobra rear with all the goodies done to it with upgraded axles. They may be weak but in a light car they can handle a lot more

The Legend ran today! Unfortunately there were no clean passes though. The first pass started off great but he started going sideways about half track and let off coasting though with a 10.0. His second time out something let lose early in the pass and he shut it down. Luckily there was nothing major damaged but unfortunately no clean passes either.

Everyone watching in anticipation as Shep prepared to go down the track at the Shootout for the first time in 6 years.

Hopefully this helps with the rear end debate.

Damn...that's a bummer......still, the sound must've been amazing......and of course the car is the cream of the crop as far as quality.
