set of cam gears ( RESOLVED )

hey quick question got a set of cam gears here and im not sure if there 1g or 2g is there even a difference in them?

There marked exhaust and intake but i dont see any other markings ( e and i are written on them by the po )

more wondering if theres a difference between the 1g and 2g ive got a set here and i dont have a camera, if theres a difference between the two then ive got to get a camera if there isnt then im all set

They 5 spoke or 4 spoke?

They intercange from 1g and 2g, no issues there.

There is the odd 7bolt/2g that has a reluctor wheel on the intake cam gear.

There are also 2 different 2g cam gears. 95-96 will have one 4-spoke and one that's nearly filled in. 97-99 will have 2 nearly identical gears.

All 1gs turbo and n/t are 5 spoke. Turbo 95-96 2g have a intake cam that has a trigger plate for the CAS on it, it almost fills the cam gear in. The exhaust cam is 4 spoke. 97-99 2g turbos have both 4 spoke sprockets.. The 4 and 5 spoke are interchangeable.

95/96 cam sensor uses a certain intake cam gear to trigger the sensor. However, you can still use the 95/96 CG's on any 1G 2G

sounds like they are not a set from 95-96

what does a 97-99 set look like?

im thinking were leaning towards a 1g set

right so these cam gears will work on 97-99 and any 1g, just wont work on a 95-96 because of how the cam sensor works on that head

ok so they are 1g cam gears but will work on 97-99

Absolutely. The 95/96 cam gears have one odd shaped gear because the CAS (Cam Angle Sensor) is under the cam gear. The CAS is vital for the engine to run. If you want to use 1g or 97-99 gears, you will have to use a non-95/96 CAS which mounts to the left side of the intake cam.

Thank you I have been tryin to figure y my car wouldnt start for like a month now. I put the 1g gears on it ### they looked better.

With a bit of paint and polish, 95/96 gears can look good too

If you don't want to go through all the hassle of pulling the gears off, you can upgrade to an adjustable 1g CAS. Read up on it a bit, it's not terribly difficult and allows you to adjust base timing.

Nice paint Wes. That looks great along with the gates belt, now you just need that clear cam cover IF it wasn't so damn expensive! I see you beat me to 1K posts

I second what Wes has said about the gears. 95/96 is a weird set of years for a some things. Some things good, some annoying
