Hey everyone!

I am sure there are threads about Sequential turn signal tail lights with OEM housing. And I am sure there are threads about Supra tail light conversions. What I have is a 98 eclipse RS with Supra tail light conversion that I am wanting to put sequential turn signals on and troubleshooting current issues. I picked up this car with the conversion already done. Its a project I have been working on. Fixed the engine etc. now working on light issues.

First, I have an issue with the way whomever wired this up. When I press the brake, both the turn signal and two brake lights light up on each side OOO LP OOO (LP=License plate). The problem is the outer two lights are amber due to the supra housing, and I don't think it a.) looks right and b.) is legal? but, I want to be able to make everything function properly by having only the 4 brake lights light up XOO LP OOX when I press the brake. It seems as though the turn signals are somehow wired to the brakes. Is this normal for an Eclipse OEM housing? Also, when I hit the turn signal, the designated side has all three lights flash. If i separate the turn signal from the brakes, and get a STS conversion kit, will it work right? Can I use LED replacement bulbs?

Any help would be appreciated. Please leave the hating at the door. :banghead:

Left the hating at the door, but it seems like an easy way to diagnose this would be to ohm out (test continuity) of the harness back by the tail lights. I'm willing to bet someone got lazy and just connected wires to wires without really seeing where they were going. Chances are the culprit is right behind the tail lights.

I understand exactly what you are getting into. Let me say that the lights are working as a USDM ECLIPSE should. What you need them to do is work like a Talon, or like the EDM/JDM tail lights would. The USDM eclipse has one solid red tail light. The Talon or EDM/JDM Eclipse lights have an amber portion that is used for turn signals.

Here is my advise; look up how to convert the Eclipse tail lights to the Talon tail lights. When I did my Talon conversion, I recall that I did need to cut a wire at the flasher unit and grab the brake light signal from another source. I also had to wire in a resistor on the turn signal circuits to slow the blink rate. It wasn't difficult to do. The information is out there and at one point I had a good write up of how to do it. Unfortunately, the DSM community wanted me to be spoon fed the information so exactly it would have been easier for me to drive cross country and do it myself then get into the specifics I was being asked. I deleted all of my posts and have referred anyone who looks for the information you need to search for the EDM/JDM tail light conversion wiring.
