Right so, I'm doin my senior project on my car. I'm gonna paint it a sweet pearl white. Do the full deal of course sand, fix some little dents all the shit. I have to get a new front bumper because mine is all messed up. Besides that I am planning on ordering a pair of Halo headlights, clear sidemarkers, some OEM tallights and smoke them, paint the centerpiece the car color, and maybe a new exhaust, header midpipe and catback.

Anyways after all that intro crap LOL. I've been lookin around the board and see some pretty sick lookin cars that are wingless and I was also thinkin about a mesh grill insert for the front bumper. Any thoughts on anything I mentioned? I haven't decided on the no wing or grill yet so some opinions would be awesome. Thanks

You can get a Grillecraft set for the front bumper. Be warned, they can be expensive but I picked mine up for a steal on Ebay. Others will tell you to just use cheap Home Depot mesh but the difference in quality is night and day.

Wingless = :thumb:

Ebay headlights and clear corners = :notgood:

White pearl will look awesome. I would stick with some stock black housing headlights and maybe smoked side markers if you smoke the tails.

Another thing I would do is lose the front plate if you can. If not move it down in the opening or something so it is not the focal point of your bumper.

I found the set you're talking about on eBay for $180. There is some cheaper sets though so i'm not sure..and yeah my friend mentioned goin to Home Depot. I told him I'm not puttin ####in chicken wire on my baby LOL

That's where my whole wingless idea started and I'm really likin how it looks. Only problem I'm concerned with is the holes in the hatch. But I suppose I could fill them with Bondo since I'm doin that anyways huh?

And to T Money..you read my mind haha yeah I figure those eBay lights are cheap so I'm probably just gonna get some nice Sylvania bulbs for the heads and fogs and call it good. [=

Good idea for the plate. I would take it off but the cops don't like around here and I don't need to be gettin pulled over again. I'll just move it down into the opening.

As in fiberglass inserts or what? In that thread someone mentioned they used rubber inserts from a hardware store that they just stuck in and they stayed and were flush with the hatch. I was thinkin something like that.

A local store around here has the grill Mesh, I beleive APC, and it's on clearence for like dirt cheap....I'll stop in tomorrow on my way to the part store for my new water pump, I'll pick a few of these up. I'll take a pic and a pic of the reciept, If you want it for cost. Just tryin to help out a fellow DSM'er

Damn man that'd be awesome. I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

If you REALLY want to do it right go ahead and have the holes welded...

I would also have the holes welded shut, thats what I am gonna do. Is the white pearl your'e doin a tricoat? I just had to spray a tricoat on a caddy bumper, it sucked haha.

Only problem is I don't have access to a welder. And I'm not exactly sure on what paint I'm gonna use yet. Me and my dad have discussed a pearl white for it but haven't picked it out yet.

Boost it. I want to see (w/ turbo) by the end of next week...

:p

Yeah yourplans sound good. I don't know if you are any good with fiberglass but you should think about shaving the door handle and throwing soe poppers in the door jams. Cheap and worthwhile if you are planning to pain the car anyways.

Good luck though! Sounds like a fun project... :thumb:

Haha dude you don't know how bad I wanted to do that instead, but my budget doesn't have room for that kinda thing. Sad isn't it LOL

Hmm good idea for the doors, those are cheap you say?

Here is an old picture of some more wingless action. Its the way to be :sneaky:

Damn that look so clean! :thumb: That's pretty much what mine will look like but with smoked tails. Ohhhh I can't wait to start work on it!!!

I would see if you can take the hatch somehwhere and get it welded. Even with the fiberglass it can rust later if it isn't done right.
I just had to do a HUGE rust patch on my buddies 240 because the shop that replaced his rear quarter long before he bought it did a shitty job.

The problem is not only the hatch, there will be 5 holes on each rear quarter panel area so that's a problem too. Those 5 smaller holes are easier to do because you just need to grind(remove paint on either side) then apply the fiberglass from underneath, use filler on top, sand, prime and paint. I did this because my entire car was being painted so it was a lot easier.

Damn son, is this what everybody does when they take their wing off??

I have been looking into removing the low wing from my GS for a while, if your looking for a quote on getting the holes welded, a local machine shop quoted me 147 for them to weld, grind, and smooth out every hole. There are alot of holes to fill so I think thats a reasonable price. Also, this price is just for them to fill the holes, painting and primer would need to be done afterwards, obviously. Good luck on your project, looking forward to some progress pics.

So to bring back a dead thread..LOL. i finally got a new front bumper, and I'm tryin to figure out where to mount my front plate. Maybe off to the side or something?? Input?

i say leave it off!!! leave it clean. if your state requires you to have a front plate i suggeset either putting it on your dash or do what i do and secure it to your passenger visor and flip it down when you drive and flip it up when your not!!! :thumb:

damn..lovin the visor idea. that's pretty badass man. because i really don't wanna drill holes in the bumper.

but i was thinkin about mountin it off to the side. any suggestions for doin this that doesn't involve drilling?

Okay, so finally an update. During my spring break I removed front bumper, headlights, spoiler, mirrors. And if the weather is okay, we're goin to start all the bodywork. So the easy part is over, the hard part is about to begin LOL. Anyways, here's my photobucket with all the pics so far. So have a look.
