Morning all,

I've began building the suspension and I've run into a dilemma. I bought a set of RX7 FD Rims, and also the Ksport Kontrol Pro Coilovers. I intend to purchase bushings, rear active toe elim kit, RR Rear Strut Tower Stress Bar/ST Rear Sway Bar, and 12.2" Wilwood Brake Kit *Front Only for now*.

I've called two local shops which sell the H&R spacers, Vivid Racing, and another everyday shop that specializes in suspension. Both shops agree running spacers, (I intend to use 10mm or 15mm spacers based on my knowledge thus far), for AutoX/Road Race purposes is a very bad idea. I know from reading other peoples threads here on the RX7 rims state that the spacers are needed, and most people at that don't have any major negative things to say about spacers, at least when compared to how harsh the shops were about it. However, they tried to make a sale and suggest I use their 17x8 inch rims instead... God I love salesmen! So I'm taking their advice with a pinch of salt, and want to get some fellow DSM'ers opinions and reassurance on spacers.

I know there's always a risk going to be had for running spacers, and after what the shop said and also reading of some 3K VR4 forums about spacers it's put me up in arms as to what to do. All that being said, here are my main questions. Also, note that the 5mm/15mm/25mm all mentioned below would be using H&R hub centric spacers.

1) If I go with a longer spacer, 15mm/25mm, will I be able to avoid grinding the control arm?

1a) If so, which would be less hazardous in terms of lifespan/longevity of the hub/wheel/spacer/my health. Running 10mm (I don't think 5mm would work with 245's, but correct me if I'm wrong), and grinding the control arm as much as necessary, or going with the 15mm/25mm spacers?

Lastly, one of the local shops said they can fabricate some 10mm hub centric spacers, however it will cost me about $860 for all 4 corners. If this is the safest route to go, between this, and still needing to grind my control arms and rolling the fenders, I'm close to $2000. What would you do? Any fellow 1G AWD members who have had their setup for 15k+ miles that can provide some feedback on how their setup is lasting? I intend for this car to perform AutoX/RoadRace and still be a daily driver for the next 6-12 months. - :dsm: Ryan

Here is the link to Supercar Engineering -- they are a 3KGT shop. They stock 3mm, 5mm, and 10mm aluminum wheel spacers that are perfect for our cars.

They also cost $32 a pair for the 3mm and 5mm sets, and $59 a pair for the 10mm sets.

I would recommend mounting your wheel without any spacers, and see what it requires for spacing (while jacked up) and then purchase what fits your needs.

I use a 3mm spacer on my rears (of my 2G) to clear my 17x7.5 45mm offset wheels with 245's -- it was required to clear my rear upper control arm.

They were also required for the 9.5"-wide slicks to clear on my 16x7 40mm offset wheels to clear the rears.

Each person's application will vary, but having adjustable coilovers will give you the ability to make them clear much better.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the info Tim. I definitely agree getting the smallest spacers available is the best option, with using none being the best. To any one looking for the link, check here : Supercar Engineering Wheel Spacers

I'm interested in hearing more feedback. Thank you all! - :dsm: Ryan

Yeah, that is the link; sorry I forgot to add it....

Good luck!
