second blown 14b

about two weeks ago i was cruising along and out of nowhere my turbo lets go (huge cloud of smoke the whole bit) i limped it home which was about a block away. this is the second 14b ive ruined is this just bad luck or am i just an idiot, the first one that blew was out of a junk yard but it spun good had little shaft play i put it in and lasted about 2 mounths then i buy another one off of ebay which seemed to be in ok shape i bolt it up and it runs great for about 3 weeks then dead again

on those turbos i was getting oil from the head and assuming i had good oil pressure also i have no idea if this would be a factor in my luck with turbos but i have probably the worst downpipe on any dsm it was made at a local muffler shop and was pressbent 2.25" and it has a bit of a kink in the bend

and the oil return to the pan started to leak in the flex part so i just cut the flex out and put in a peice of rubber hose in its place


like i said im really at a lose other than maybe low oil pressure or just plain bad turbos

There could be a few factors to the bad turbos.. One could be that when you bought that turbo off ebay they lied about the condition of the turbo. I would say that you got a bad turbo? Did it have any shaft play when you got it?

I know from experience of buying parts of ebay. I bought a head off ebay and it was suppose to be in excellent condition so I put it on the car and it had 2 bent intake valves.

Maybe this is a sign to go bigger and better.

I would say you just got bad luck. The first one was from a junk yard; so you don't know for sure the condition of the turbo. And I think you jsut got a bad turbo off ebay. I would say just go out and buy a NEW turbo. Preferably a 16g. Turbochargers.com have them on sale for $475. Hope this helps you out.

it is quite possible that having two old turbo's on the car, that the age itself just killed the them.

I say, check your oil return line for any kinks. Does the car smoke at all out the tailpipe? How much oil pressure is at the head of the 420a motor?

it doesnt smoke out the tailpipe a bit and im not sure how much pressure comes out of the head but i have a 1g so its a non turbo 4g63 really appreciate the help though

it didnt have much shaft play but i know what you mean about buying used parts especialy from ebay, i just wanted to make sure thats what it sounded like to everyone else i guess ill try my luck again and again thank you for you wisdom
