I have been using seafoam in heavy equipment engines for years and I have seen it make dramatic differences in performance and idle quality. I recently had a problem with low power from my 91 talon. It felt like the computer was removing timing. Normally what I do is find a secluded spot because you will smoke down your whole neighborhood. Start the engine and let it get up to opperating temp. I remove a vacum hose and put it in the can and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm and suck the can dry. Shut off the engine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then start it back up and run it down the road, and run it hard. This will remove a substantial amount of carbon build up from the combustion chambers. :thumb:
 
I was just thinkin, since i wont be able to do this where i live because the neighbors will get butt hurt and call the cops because of the smoke, could i get like a sock or one of those thin sock things that girls wear on there legs, and put it on the tailpipe and hold the rev at like 6000 rpms, would it still clear the engine without making a big ol' attention getting smoke cloud that looks like a fire, answers will be very appreciated, thanks.

Just change the damn oil when your done man :p

Im very interested in doing this. The Eagle has 108k on the clock and hasnt really been the same car lately. Hopefully this does the trick. Great thread :thumb:
 
Just did mine this weekend with plain water. Took longer (three Snapple bottles over 5 minutes) and didn't blow a lot of dense smoke but hazed up the immediate neighborhood some.

Changed the oil right after.

Car was doing the part-throttle stumble before and now it's running like it should. Fun to drive again.
 
I drove mine like normal for the first minute or two. After the car was at normal temps, I added some boost.

As far as the person that asked for putting a sock on their pipe........Just wait until late at night. The night helps to hide the smoke and most people aren't out.
 
I just used SeaFoam this week on my AWD TSi w/129 G's on the odo. What can I say... I smoked 'em :laugh: . This stuff really does work. The car runs smooth and more powerful now. It was great when some dude jumped on the highway behind me and thought he was sweet and got a cloud of smoke from me. :D :talon:
 
Back in the day a mechanic that I knew would dump a whole can of Coca cola down the carb of any car that was missing just rev it up to around 3500 rpm and pop the top and pour . I have had many motors apart and the best thing I have found to remove carbon buildup is water . The carbon absorbs it over night and swells, falling off peice that I am working on. I guess the coke would have an extra benifit of the phosphoric acid and the sugar would make it burn quicker and have a sweeter smell . It kind of like soaking a frying pan in water.
 
I just got finished doing this and so far i can say there is a great improvement in response and power. This should be made a STICKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I bought a can of the liquid Sea Foam about a week ago... Haven't got around to putting it into the clipse yet but Im getting to it... I put it in my 87 Bronco and smoked out the whole neighborhood....

Could just be a temporary light it triggered. Just unhook your negative cable for a few mintutes or use a logger/autozone to clear it.
 
k after reading all this i'm very interested in doing this to my 92 GSX with 102k on the odo.

I just have one question: u guys say plug it in the vacuum where the mani goes to the bov right? but by doing that do u mean unplugging the bov?

or do u just unplug the bov and hook up the can and suck it all in and let it sit and then plug in the bov when u take it for the "smoke screen run"?

cause u said u ran boost after a little right? so i assume u reconnected ur bov?

its prolly your rear o2 sensor...give it time to clear up or like cut said, just unplug the cable for a few :thumb:

yes, take the line off the bov, SLOWLY suck the seafoam in, i usually pinch the line so it doesnt go in too fast, and once you have enough through, reconnect the line to the bov
 
First off, on the 1st gen you'll miss a cylinder using the BOV line, I used the P line at the throttle body. Second, I can not tell any difference whatsoever in the engines running condition after this stuff. It might be a good cleaner, but water has the exact same effect... :thumbdown
 
this deff needs to made a sticky , i tried this on my 98 GST and it works wonders, as though i didnt see as much as an improvement as i thought, my motor was just rebuilt ~7k miles ago, it definately pulls quicker and harder even at stock boost. My friend in Panama city says his really pulls harder at 15psi than it did before, and it idles smoother.. 5 bucks, oil and oil filter ABSOLUTELY worth it :thumb:

Hm. My car sounds like it is doing the same thing yours did before you put the seafoam in. No power in lower RPMs, slightly burning oil, rough idle... I wonder if this stuff will clean the engine out? Where do you get Seafoam from again?
 
Ok, i just changed my oil so I'm gonna wait for a while but I'm really stoked to try this. I need to get some things clear in my mind first...yes, I read the entire thread.

My BOV vents to the atmosphere right now...Blitz (cant help it) is that going to be a problem?

About the whole sparkplug deal. Do I have to do that, what are the advantages?

Is this the vaccum line line most are using?

Might as well add to this. I used this stuff to soak my piston tops when my head was off. I also sent it through a vac line, poored it in the gas tank, and poored it into the oil. Nice and clean now. Smells great too while it's burning :thumb:
 
well, you will need to use a piece of vacuum hose to connect from the nipple to the can. But we used the middle line on the left set of 3. It doesnt really matter, but you will need to can to connect to the intake manifold, not the removed vacuum line. like take off that vaccum hose, but then run a piece of 3or4 ft. vacuum hose from the nipple to the can of sea foam. venting your BOV wont matter, and yes change your plugs. cause that sea foam shit will #### your plugs up. So make sure to change them after you blow out all the seam foam, cause your car wont run good with those jenked up spark plugs. :thumb:
 
like ^^^^said. Venting won't make a difference.

1. Yes, use the line you have circled to suck the fluid from the can.
2. You will have to blip the throttle to keep the car running while you suck the contents.
3. I sucked about half the can in through that line.
4. pull your plugs out(notice how wet they are)(I cleaned them up with brake cleaner)
5. Pour it through the spark plug holes(enough to cover the pistons. Not to fill the chamber up).
6. Let it set for a while. I prefer all night.(I put the spark plugs back in during this)
7. pull the plugs and vacuum any left over seafoam out. As you will notice, there's not much left. Most has probably drained past the rings.
8. put the plugs back in
9. start her up and let it blow all that stuff out. Then drive it to blow the rest out.
10. put new plugs in and change the oil.

Now if you don't want to pour it through the spark plug holes,
go from step 4 to step 6 then to step 9 and 10.

I also put a can in my gas tank.
 
I just used some of this stuff. I put it in through the intake vacuum tube (one that connects to the bov) and half of it in the oil.

About how long do you have to let it run? I let it run for 10 mins and I had to stop it because there was too much smoke coming out and my neighbors will complain.

Also, is it normal for it to come out from the engine bay? Around the exhaust manifold?

good thing they're all trained to estimate speed...they estimated that my friend was going 50 in a 25 while i was in the car and saw he was going 27mph on the dot
