I have been using seafoam in heavy equipment engines for years and I have seen it make dramatic differences in performance and idle quality. I recently had a problem with low power from my 91 talon. It felt like the computer was removing timing. Normally what I do is find a secluded spot because you will smoke down your whole neighborhood. Start the engine and let it get up to opperating temp. I remove a vacum hose and put it in the can and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm and suck the can dry. Shut off the engine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then start it back up and run it down the road, and run it hard. This will remove a substantial amount of carbon build up from the combustion chambers. :thumb:

no need to remove your cat. The particles are like dust. It will blow through(If you're worried, go ahead and do it though).

It would be a good idea to change your plugs after this. It could foul them. I always change them but that's just me. They're cheap, so why not do it all at once.

I ran some mccc since I couldn't find any sea foam. Bad things: my lifters still tick a little, I still have horific nock, and my idle is now 1000 rpm  ? The good things: I built a cat eleminator that sounds sweet on my 2.5 turbo back, I think I killed a billion bugs, and my wallet weighs less now  Does anyone have a sugestion why my idle went so high? I adjusted the idle screw but it only help a 100 rpm or so.

Give it some drive time. your idle will return to normal. Your computer is probobly getting confused sensor readings. Untill the stuff clears out of your engine you may have a high idle and some residual smoke. No worries. ;)

sucking the stuff through your vacuum hose won't affect lifters at all. It doesn't even reach them. I used Amsoil motor flush for that. You add it to the oil and follow the directions. Seafoam can be added to the crankcase but I've never used it that way. I've only sucked it in with the vacuum hose.
Good luck

hey guys, i just did seafoam through the vac line that attaches to the bov. Is the white smoke also supposed to come out the engine? Could this be bc of a leak in my exhaust manifold? My car sounds like it needs a new exhaust but i only saw a nickel sized hole in the downpipe. So why the smoke from the engine? (there was just as much smoke if not more comming from the front as the back)
Thanks,
david

wow im gonna try this..my car hasnt been running like it used to and i'm due for an oil change soon. i'll let y'all know how it turns out.

I just finished mine the other day and it worked really well(like I mentioned above)
After, it has better throttle responce and just seems to run better all around.
As I posted above(This is the method I used. You can come up with your owne if you prefer):

1. I used the vacuum hose to suck aprox 75% of the can while someone in the car kept the engine reving(keeping it from dying).
2. I then shut the engine off.
3. pulled the plugs.(This can be skipped)
4. I then put more(just a little to make sure the tops of the pistons were wet) through the plug holes.(this can be skipped)
5. let it sit for 30+ minutes
6. took a shop vac and sucked out the excess in the cylinder area(If #3 and 4 were skipped, then you can skip this one also).
7. popped the old plugs back in and fired it up
8. The 007 smoke screen started up :D
9. Drove it for about 5 min.s, smoking out the neighborhood. Until it stopped.
10. Put new plugs in because the carbon and cleaner can foul out the plugs.
11. Runs like a dream.

On a side note, if you are putting extra through the plug holes, you may want to change your oil after you blow the carbon out. Some of the cleaner may get past the rings into the oil.

is there anyway i can purchase this stuff online? i'd really like to try it but I have had no luck finding it in my area. Also, could i get a picture of the exact hose you're using off the throttle body? thanks!

The pic is already up. Go back up and look at the pic I posted.
Look at the intake manifold. It's the only vacuum hose on the mani in the pic.
It's the one right next to the sensor on the mani.
It's the one that usually runs from the mani to the BOV

As far as finding the stuff, put in a search for "seafoam cleaner". It comes up with lots of results.

Here's their page
http://www.seafoamsales.com/

I've found it at
Napa
Auto zone
Advanced Auto
etc.

Hope this helps

i just did this a few minutes ago and afte driving around in a cluoud of smoke for a few minutes the car felt like it hasnt in a long time. It pulls stronger and seems to idle smoother now. good buy especially for only 5 bucks :thumb:

I, along with dsmrevolution, have used tranny fluid to do this to all of my cars.
Also, a half quart of tranny fluid in a full tank of gas will clean out your injectors and lubricate them. You can also do the same thing with two-stroke oil. I usually put one of those tiny bottles of 2-stroke oil in per every full tank.

Guys, up here in Canada, the Seafoam can is "illegal" because it doesn't have any french on it....dumbass law.

Would anyone want to ship me a can or two? I'd be in great appreciation. I'll pay for shipping + the cans + a little bit extra.

Or, if someone could find me the part number from NAPA only, I may be able to round some up. Thanks a helluva lot!

I didn't realize that this was a site full of girls. Grab your sack and go do it, you weenies, before I put the smacketh down on your candy asses. I did, and it is AMAZING what difference the Sea Foam made in my throttle response. It was a lot like a previous post where I felt my timing was retarted as I am. After the Sea Foam, my car is back.

I bought 5 ft of vac line, ran it to the "E" port on my throttle body, sat in the driver's seat with the other side of the vac line submerged in the can of Sea Foam, started the car, kept it at 2500 RPMs for half the can, shut off the motor, let it sit for 10 minutes, started the car, mosquito sprayed the neighborhood and went out and romped on it, just like the instructions given. No hydrolock. Where do you guys get this stuff? Paranoia, I say. :dsm: :p

when i worked at Jiffy-Lube we had some stuff like this....what you do is runn the can through a small hose into one of your vacuum hoses until the can is empty and some blue smoke is idling through the tailpipe. then cut the car off wait 30 secs and start it up and hold the rev at 2500 while all the black smoke comes out then itll be blue then go away...then just drive the car and you WILL notice a difference. do it every 15,000 miles and if you do it on a high millage car never having it done? ittl smoke like crazy cuz its so dirty...it works and is good stuff. doesnt hurt anything either... :thumb:

Could someone send me a can of this? I'll paypal you the money for the can + shipping, it isn't carried at any of the auto parts stores in my area :(

Or does anyone know where to order it online, I can't find it anywhere to order either

sounds like a good thing to do, my eagle has 116k, I'd bet it would run like a champ afterwords.. I went to advance auto parts online and found SeaFoam SF16 is the number is that the same thing? or is it the Seafoam Motor tune up, witch they stoped carring. And I went back and just entered SF16 and it came back up so thats the number for it if people are looking for it. and its $4.98 here in PA.
