Say you have a water cooled OFH..

So, what would be good locations to feed/return in the engine bay? I know I can get a feed from the Thermostat house, but where would be a good location to feed if there is no return provision on the hard line that goes across the front of the block?

I'm having a bit of a cooling issue and I want to be sure that everything is ran correctly. Everything on my Thermo-housing is blocked save for a feed and the CTS. Currently the OFH feed line is ran from the Thermo housing. The Return is on the Heater Core Return where the throttle body return used to be. Might this work fine?
 
Besides there being no cooling to the OFH in this fashion, what are the cons of this? I've read a bit on it, but the outcomes seem to be hit and miss. I assume this is one of those subjects that border the Crankwalk discussion?
 
To me, no cooling is a pretty big con. The oil cooler is one of the few ways with which you are able to control the oil temperature, to a certain extent. While there are people that have removed the oil cooler altogether and have had no ill-effects to report, the water-cooled oil cooler does in-fact provide benefits. I'm sure everybody knows the benefits, but stating them here for reference should be okay. The most obvious of these is keeping oil temperatures near coolant temperatures. Keeping the oil at that temperature range is important in providing the engine with proper lubrication. High temperatures thin out oil and also break down additives that protect the engine from wear.

At the same time, at the opposite end of the spectrum, oil also takes longer for coolant to get up to operating temperature. Oil that is not up to operating temperature does not provide optimal protection for the engine, and is the reason why the majority of engine wear is caused during cold-starts and engine warmup. Any way to bring the oil to operating temp and reduce the time it takes for it to get up to temp is well received, in my opinion. The coolant will reach operating temperature LONG before the oil does, and the water-cooled OFH will serve to warm up the oil.

These are reasons why I decided to keep my oil cooler the way it came from the factory. In the end, the decision will be up to you to make. The way you have your lines routed, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Just one thing to remember, with an water cooling system, just make sure you toque the oil filter down correctly, last thing you want is a cracked cooler leaking coolant into oil. That's the one of the reasons I removed mine, so I would never have to worry about this happening, nor those extra coolant lines that run behind the turbo.
