Should know I'm trying to figure out why a 2g auto doesn't shift until the throttle is fully lifted.

Reminded me that the car doesn't even fully rev out. I'm fixing a hela-ton of boost leaks for the guy and the car starts to over boost and fuel cut around 4.5k. And is correct the car won't shift until the accelerator pedal is lift then it clunks itself into gear LOL

Should know that a similar issue arose on a '58 Ford that a friend of my dad's had. It was an auto and wouldn't shift until he let off the gas. It ended up being a major vac leak to the trans.

Obviously DSMs don't have a vac actuated trans, so I would think there is an issue with the speed sensor, because doesn't the ecu read off of that? But you say it clunks into gear, as in shifts really hard?

Maybe there's two problems.

should know i think he just solved the problem. I completely forgot 2gs have a electronic vss. Also the vehicle in question the speedo doesn't work.

Knows head gaskets are fairly easy depending if the bolts for the intake manifold brackets are not seized. When they are it becomes a pita to get the head off

Should know i forgot he was running the bastard motor LOL j/kin But honestly I wasn't aware that it was that much harder to remove the head.

Knows I do basic repairs, but I'm looking at my options. I may have some help, but it could be a few months.

Also should know I would like to get the money together for a rebuilt longblock, FTW.

Knows I have a way of justifying the longblock option:

-A new car will cost about $400-$500... a month in car payments over 5 years.
-Spending 4K for a longblock (including install) will cost about $67 a month over 5 years

I know it's not that simple, but hey, it's a thought.

Should know to do a HG on a 4g63 it isn't much harder than a 420a

Just to give you an idea. The top photo has the head off, motor mounts, exhaust, intake, alternator, t-belt, etc. Basically all ready to slap down the new HG.
The second photo has a similar car all buttoned up. If I can do it in a gravel driveway, you can definitely do it :)
