Nice pics, looks like fun, but I don't get the title to the thread?? You being sarcastic??

The title was sort of a joke ment to grab some attention. The event was a full tarmac road rally held in Linden, TN. There where over 22 enteries for the two day event that covered more than 100 stage miles. The rally was sanctioned by NASA as part of their USRC and ESRC series. I was there servicing for a SRT-4 and Blake Yoon's Evo. As you seen Blakes weekend was cut short. The competitors really enjoyed the event and the people from Linden and Perry County where very happy to have us there. It was also some great spectating and the delta style intersections. Seamus who won in his Evo averaged 80mph on the long stage. From being on these roads myself that is extremely fast. He was using the whole road and then some of the ditches.

I figured as much considering most people on here know the site's stance on street racing. One of these days I'll get to try a rally, just not going to happen anytime soon.

Rally Tennessee was legal street racing. One of the navigators said that it really felt like they where doing something illegal. From going out with our driver and navigator to preview the stages and make notes I can say that the roads where incredible. They where smooth and flowing, it just made you want to dive into the apex even at 30 mph. That is what got me hooked on rally, just picture your favorite country road and then have the freedom to dive into the apex and fly over the crest with out the worry of someone coming the other way or joggers. When you first come out to spectate especially at night it is almost like you are dreaming. When the cars come through the turns with their rotors glowing, anti-lag popping and then blowing down the straights at 100mph, it is like being in a dream because after that car it all falls sillent and the crickets chirp. It is almost indescribable.

Great description! OMG I want to do this badly now.

Give us an update/roundup on the rally scene in the US. You can start with these Qs:

How many organizations put on stage rallies? Any outlaw clubs, like the old MONY Series?

Into what classes do DSMs fit? Do we gotta run against Evos in that class?

What does it cost to enter? (I read in Grassroots that the entry fee is $1,000)

How many events are strut-busters? In the olden days, all the Michigan events killed suspensions.

I'd kind of like to give stage rallying a go again, but not for $1,000 entry fees where I have to compete against Evos.

Here's some more pictures from Rally Tennessee. NASA did an awsome job, the event was an absolute blast! Definitely seemed different from other rally's, for one...the cars stayed clean all weekend;) . I was glad to get out and spectate a stage on sunday, which is a rare oppurtunity when being service crew. One of the coolest things about this event, is how much the local people love it (the Sheriff and Mayor even presented awards at the awards banquet). Here's a couple pictures I snapped. Sorry these are so big, but it's the only affordable (read: free) host that retained good quality after uploading.

Top 3 Overall (From left to right)
3rd: Wolfgang Hoeck/ Piers O'Hanlon
1st: Seamus Burke/ Chrissy Beavis
2nd: Daniel O'Brien/ Dominik Jozwiak

A Factory Five Daytona Coupe was running exhibition passes behind the 00 car. As you can see, he might have had some traction issues. :D

This is a shot of Blake Yoon's tarmac tires on friday night, as several teams did some final prep work.

Random picture of a bench, alongside the road during Recce on friday. (Recce is a pass through the stages while following ALL traffic rules. This allows the Codriver and driver to read through their stagenotes, and change anything they see fit.)

The black Evo was catching up to Burke when it went off into the woods. (A friend of mine is on the team.) To be fair, here's a pic from before the incident.

Ah, if only I could have those twenty years back!

I am a psychology professor at Penn State and the faculty advisor of the undergrad automotive performance club.

Oh that last picture is great. There's nothing quite like looking out the side window to see down the road...and it's on purpose. I grew up in a small town and as soon as we had driver's licenses we were out on the rock roads outside of town. My buddy had an early 80's all wheel drive Subaru Legacy that we used most of the time. It didn't have much power, but it sure was a lot of fun to slide down the roads. I wished I'd known about ditchhooking back then. :D We rolled it a few times, hit a couple trees, jumped off a cliff, etc. But it just kept on going and we survived as well somehow. His little brother inherited it and he and his buddies did the same things. It finally died after his little brother busted a hole in the oil pan on a stump and ran it dry. Lots of fun and I wish there was an affordable and legal way to do it today. Thanks for the pics and bringing back the memories.
