i tried doing a few searches and i was unable to find what i was looking for. so if this is a repost i apologize.

i just recently installed the apexi safc II and i was wondering what are the different levels of knock. normal, good, ok, dangerous..?

i noticed that before my new engine when i used to get on it i would hit 200 counts of knock, now with the new motor it gets around 30....

You want to tune for zero knock. Any amount of knock is bad, predetonation is bad no matter how much you are getting. If you are getting phantom knock that could be bad also, depending on what is making the "noise", not to mention the ECU starts to reduce timing when knock is detected.

Rule of thumb, tune for less than 5 counts of knock. If you were getting 200 counts of knock you either had a seriouse problem or it was phantom knock like mentioned above. My thoughts...sell the AFC and buy DSMLink. You can do so much more and you can dial out phantom knock as well.:thumb:

The actual knock count tuning is edge 3 with a maximum of 5. Tuning for zero knock is worthless since you still don't know how rich you are. Identifying knock will help you see the limit and tune to accomodate it while still achieving maximum safe horsepower. Also, an AFC is a poor instrument to register knock. Go with DSM Link or a Keydiver Chip in an EPROM ECU that will show knock on the stock boost gauge. The logger on a 1G will also show physical knock so that's an option as well.

Hope that helps,

Andy

I came to the conculsion like many other people that AFC knock "counts" are worthless. Set it to the rolling graph screen with knock and rpm. Log it and take a picture at the top of 2nd or 3rd. I'd like to compare it to mine. I was getting 200+ at higher RPM, which is complete bull because if there was that much knock my rods would be laying out on the road. After doing 2 motor mounts the peak valves came back into the hundreds and the frequency and severity is much less. Its still way up there though. But I just stopped paying attention to it. I know I'm not getting that much knock (if any) tuned for 11:1 on 93 octane.

If you are reading those knock counts off the safc, the knock guage on the afc doesnt work on our cars.Correct me if im wrong but im certain of that.
