i bought an safc2 off my buddy. i hooked it up today and it works perfectly. no instructions or anything came with it and he doesn't know anything about it, he got someone else to install it. when i go to the high and lo throttle charts when i add a percentage is it adding fuel? i figured it is but i always like to be sure. also, a white, yellow and purple wire is left over. where are they supposed to go and what do they do? thanks for any help.

Adding on the SAFC fools the ECU in thinking that there is more air coming in hence the ECU compensates with more fuel. the reverse is also true...removing air, ECU removes fuel.

As far as the wires are concerned, White and Yellow are your Airflow wires...they MUST be installed per the instructions found here:

http://www.apexi-usa.com/pdfWiring/1.pdf

the purple wire is for knock and can also be hooked up per the above link.

find your ECU pinout in the above link and wire EXACTLY as shown.

enjoy.

Unplugging the connectors to the ECU
1) Remove the passenger rocker panel cover and kick panel, and pull back the carpet. (for a DSM, the ECU is located behind the radio)
2) Unplug the connectors from the ECU behind the glovebox. (This will probably be easier if you open the glovebox past its catches)
NOTE: All wiring instructions are referrenced as looking directly at the yellow connectors.

Connecting the wires
1) Power Wire: Connect the Red wire of the AFC harness to the Red wire with Black bands corresponding to the connector hole as shown above (bottom row, 2nd from right).
2) Ground Wire: 1: Connect the Brown wire of the AFC harness to the Black wire with Orange bands corresponding to the connector hole as shown above (bottom row, furthest on the right).
3) Ground Wire 2: Connect the Black wire of the AFC harness to the same Black wire with Orange bands as you did the Brown wire. Be sure to connect the Brown wire closer to the ECU/connector than the Black wire.
Failure to do so may result in improper product operation and engine damage.
Wiring the AFC into the 24 pin connector
1) RPM Wire: Connect the Green wire of the AFC harness to the Black wire corresponding to the connector hole as shown above (bottom row, 4th from left).
2) Throttle Signal Wire: Connect the Gray wire of the AFC harness to the Green wire with a white stripe, corresponding to the connector hole as shown above (bottom row, 6th from left).
3) Air Flow Signal: Cut the Green wire with a blue stripe and Orange bands, corresponding to the connector hole as shown above (top row 3rd from left). This is the Air Flow signal wire. The AFC will intercept this wire and allow you to adjust the MAS signal to the ECU so leave enough wire from the connector so you can splice in.
4) AFC Connections: Connect the Orange wire (input to the AFC) of the AFC harness to the wire you cut from the 24 Pin connector. Connect the Pink wire (output from the AFC) of the AFC harness to the part of the wire still on the connector.
5) (OPTIONAL) Sensor 2 - Oxygen Sensor: Connect the Blue wire of the AFC harness to the White wire with Orange bands corresponding to the connector hole as shown above [blue circle] (top row, 4th connector from the right). This is the Oxygen sensor signal to the ECU. You can view this signal in the "etc." menu, under "Sensor chk".
6) Setup: Car Type is 4 cylinder and progressive throttle. Air flow type is Karman Vortex.

this is exactly how i set my car up. i have a 93 tsi if it matters at all and a 91 eprom m/t ecu. the safc works perfectly. i just had those 3 wires left over. it seems to adjust the fuel very nicely. only prob im having so far is that the knock meter isn't corresponding to my knock gauge (converted boost gauge from keydiver chip). so i was guessing that one of those wires goes for that. where does the purple wire for knock hook up to?

Your keydiver chip knock sum boost guage has nothing to do with the wire on the safc.I dont think the knock function works on our cars with the safc.Email jeff and ask him why its not working.Maybe your not knocking.:thumb:It will just sit there unless you knock.

no no no sorry. my boost gauge/knock gauge is in fact working, i've had it climb and can literally feel the timing change. i needed to know what wire i connect the purple wire off the afc too so the afc will read knock as well. thanks

The SAFC doesn't read knock correctly on our cars. It would be a waste of time to hook it up.

the safc2 im using is about 1.5 to 2 years old at most. i bought it off my buddy. everything works mint on it. and it is functioning correctly when i add/remove fuel across the band. and if everything is hooked up right, why are there stille those 3 wires hanging around? vfaq never covered them or what they could be used for.
