Today I insatlled a safc that i got and i wired it up like they say in vfaq. But when i go to start it it misses and when you try to rev it up it keeps missing til it gets above 3k and then it blows black smoke out and you can try to rev it while the rpms are up and it does nothing til they drop back down. And I left everything at 0 and even tried turning them down to -8 through the rpm

I did set it for karmen and the arrow at the 2'oclock position. But now i hook my air flow wire back to normal and it still acts like it did with the afc hooked up. And it keeps giving me a faulty as check engine light. I clear it off and it comes back on. But i know its not bad because i took the one off my buddys gsx and it does the same thing and put mine on his and it works fine.

Its reading that my mass air flow sensor is mal-functioning. But ive cleared it and tried another one on it and it makes no difference. All it does is spit and spudder when you try to rev it up til it builds boost.

All that sputtering is from the engine not reading the mas at all. I had that happen to me once when I forgot to plug it back in. Acted the exact same way.. Check all connections.. make sure you connected the right wires together...

did you disconnect your battery when you installed your safc? If not you may have blown your ecu. Do you have any people that you know that live near you with a 97+ eclipse/talon? If you do swap in there ecu. I'm 99% sure it is your ecu.

The mass air flow sensor wire is the one that you have to cut in half to connect properly, not just splice in the afc wire from what i remember. It's definitely a wiring issue.

Well, you either want the afc in, or out. You can't have half the stuff connected to the afc and the other half not, otherwise the afc won't be working properly and ecu won't be getting the right signals. I could be wrong tho :)

It is either your airflow wire or it's your ecu... you can leave the afc in with the airflow wired like stock. It won't do anything because the rest of the wires are just power, ground, and readings... Check the ecu harness make sure you didn't pull the wire by accident, check the sensor harness itself... and if you have to try the ecu swap idea.

Well i got the car to run right hooked up stock i just let it set for an hour and tried it again and its fine but i still dont know bout the safc. It still want run when you hook it up. I have read that they dont have a long life to them like the safc2 does. But does anyone know what they do when they go bad?

Ok i just went through this. Triple check your wiring by the SAFC wiring diagram. I used wiring direction that i found online and it turned out that i was lead astray. My SAFC had to be set for 2 cylinders and my throttle wire was on the wrong wire. Once i switched it up it was like a miracle and it all cleared up, CEL came off. and also double check that it is set to Karman i thought mine was and it wasnt

I do recall hearing that some cars only work with the setting on 2 cyl instead of 4 so i guess you could try that.

If you don't connect the RPM wire to the CAS or tach pins as shown on various VFAQs and instead follow the mistake shown in the SAFC manuals by connecting the RPM wire to one of the transistor outputs you will have to use 2 cylinder mode.

Ok i figured the problem out today and all i had to do was solder the wires for the air flow wires. Connectors didnt make a solid enough connection for the safc to work. But i dont know bout the rest of you but the apexi instructions kind of suck. But thanks for your help everybody! Oh yeah and i think my mas may have been bad the whole time> had to put another one on this morning before a could get to work. Really sucked! thank god for spares
