i was wondering if getting a wideband o2 and an safc2 is a good purchase for my turbo'ed 420a. if anyone else is using something different and thinks it's better than using these two (wideband and afc) to tune with (that is something that i can afford...i'm in high school) then let me know. otherwise, i'll go this route. thanks in advance

wideband and megasquirt.

MS runs about the same price as an SAFC and you can actually do something with it.

whats the difference? better yet, where do i go to read some more about megasquirt? i've done searches but i cant find anything. links anyone? thanks

EDIT: nevermind about the links...what if i dont want to go the standalone route? i dont really wanna get myself into something that i dont know anything about. if i do decide to use the afc, what wouldnt i be able to do because i was na? my friend has a 4g63 and he said that it would be a good way to go...but i want to ask you guys first...

Do yourself a favor and don't listen to advice given to you from 4G63 owners. Their platform is so completely different from ours that their advice is rarely helpful.

The S-AFC screws with stock MAP sensor readings. In our turbocharged 420A cars, the MAP sensor is basically disabled after 0psi (otherwise the ECU would send the car into limp mode; hence the missing link or FCD). Thus, the S-AFC is really only useful for tweaking your idle and fuel curve under vacuum (which doesn't need much tweaking as it is).

If you totally want to steer clear of MS, you're pretty much stuck with either an FMU or S-FMU (there might be a few more less common solutions as well).

MS, however, doesn't absolutely replace your stock ECU in function. You can make a sort of eight injector setup whereby the ECU controls your stock injectors, and MS adds supplementary fuel after 0psi through an additional four injectors.

Some people do get something out of the SAFC when they boost the 420a. Others don't. It may depend on your feul setup as well. What set-up are you currently running? Do you plan to upgrade?

The MSnS is a good route to go because it allow control of the ignition as well. Also, more fine tuning then the AFC. Although, you need to do pretty good amount of research to fully grasp the install, because it looks damn tricky to me.

If you dont have one already and choose NOT to go the wideband o2 route, I would reccommend and FMU or S-FMU depending on the amoutn of boost you want to run. There are interchangable discs to switch in or out depending on your set-up.

I wanted to go the MSnS route but the product and wiring needed just isn't something I want to mess with. There may be another alternative to actually buying and doing the tuning (wideband o2) itself: Use someone else's. If you have any local shops with a dyno, offering tuning for hourly rate, etc, then I'm almost positive the would have a wideband to use. SBR charges $140/hour for tuning on their dyno with their o2, so even if something does mess up or go wrong, YOU aren't really responsible for it.... depending on the part I guess...

right now i have stock injectors, FMU and a walbro 255 hp. i have 390cc injectors sitting in my room but i cant use them because 1. they are out of a 1g so i need a resistor pack and 2. i need something like the afc to control them. would the afc be a good route for switching injectors?

yeah, honestly ms sounds way too over my head for wiring and all of the different parts i need for it.what about hahn's portfueler 8 injector setup? would i still need something like ms to run that? i know that it wont be as tuned anywhere close to the ms (if not needed) i DO NOT want to run lean...

the main goal i want to happen is for me to have my car running, seeing that it is my only car but to also not have frickin hondas beat me anymore!

Hahn's PortFueler is completely self-contained in terms of system control. Everything they send you should be all that you need to get the thing to work. Even the control box is pre-programmed for whatever injectors you tell them (but you can tweak the settings later with a laptop).

If you only want to slap on some larger injectors, and plan to stay below about 16psi, I would recommend getting a S-FMU. It'll let you adjust your idle fuel pressure so those bigger injectors won't flood your AFR, while still raising the fuel pressure appropriately under boost.
