I love 2g eclipses so I'm sad to have to sell it. Bought the car about 5 months ago and it seemed like a steal( the cars in good shape, clean interior, good exterior with only a minor dent and scratch on back bumper, 151xxx miles), got it for $2500 at a dealer. Ran the car before i bought it and it was perfect, next day it started smoking bad(white smoke, got thicker as i revved). I have no idea what it is, people tell me its a head gasket but i don't have muddy-milky oil and no loss of power but i am losing coolant and oil fast. I would keep it but i cant afford to as I'm only 18 and insurance is extremely high for me($500 a month) plus i would have to fix the problem. Now I'm trying to sell it and some guy offers me $2000 i was hoping to at least get what i paid for it back, Should i just take the money or can i get more for it?

Sounds Like the Turbo is gone, Rebuild, or replace the Turbocharger, especially if everything is still stock, and enjoy the car.

I don't think a blown turbo would blow white smoke. I should know because mine is shot right now and it most definitely will not consume coolant.

Depends on how bad you need the money. If it were me I would try to hold out for more. Especially with a clean car in our area. They tend to rust out really fast and if everything in good shape its definitely worth more.

Eclipse GSX pics of it, if it helps the turbo seems to spool fine and from time to time i get some liquidy substance come out the exhaust (not sure whether its oil or coolant) and it does smoke very little in the engine bay

If you're going to sell it... a '96 with 150-ish thousand miles.... appears to be comepletely stock.... if it is just a turbo or something along those lines... I'd say at the very least $3k. I see the GSX's going for around $5k and they look like shit.

I think that somewhere between 2-3 is the right price. Have to remember the economy sucks and these cars are getting older.

you can find a used t25 on ebay or craigslist for like $75. dont jump the gun and just sell it, find out what it needs cause the parts aren't very expensive.

and $500 a month for insurance? how bad is your driving record?

I would do a compression test to give you an idea on the health if the engine. I would also check the turbo for shaft play. You obviously bought this car cause you liked it don't give up on it now. It could be an easy fix.

I'm with everyone else. Try the turbo replacement route.
And if it does come to selling it. Your not going to get cost out of it when your asking less than you paid for it LOL I'd set it at 3k, that way when you get the cheap craigslist people you can still get 2500

Let me ask you this.

Why did you buy an Eclipse GSX in the first place?

I know I'll get flamed for this but it works. Get some of that head gasket repair stuff and the oil leak stop stuff from auto parts store. And follow the directions exactly and it will usually fix the problem I did it in a grand prix years ago and it still runs fine. But tell however you sell it to that's what you did otherwise you're a douche

A bad turbo isn't going to make the car loose coolant. This is most likely the head gasket blown between the water jacket and cylinder. There is no need to just start replacing the turbo before knowing whether or not it is bad. It's pretty simple, remove the intercooler piping, look for oil, if none is present pull the o2 housing and look for oil on the turbine wheel, if non is present than the turbo is fine.

There is a huge difference between a forced induction engine and a N/A engine. I doubt that stuff would work on our cars.

Um, no.
It doesn't work on any car. If you know the mechanics behind a blown head gasket you will know why.

Some of that quick fix stuff can work on some cars sometimes. But since you are sooooo knowlagable about the "mechanics behind a blown head gasket" please enlighten me since you know me and my mechanical background and clearly I just don't undersand.

I didn't mean to quote you, i was talking to the other guy, i accidentally quoted you.

if you really love the 2g eclipse dont sell it idk about how hard it is for you to find a gsx but where im at iv found one 2g that was rusted to crap i would trade my gst for a gsx even if the turbo was shot

I was trying to see if the kid bought the car with the intention of modding, but is now turningtail because it's puffing some smoke. You're going to have to introduce yourself to that world if you're going to own this car.

You're to have to make it better than it comes from the factory.

There is not any insurance company I have ever heard of that charges 500 a month for liability on a 15 year old car unless you have street racing and a dui on your driving record. Call progressive when I was 18 I bought a brand new red celica gt-s and got some 400 a month quotes for full coverage but progressive got it down to 200. A lot of people are likely to have a good t25 laying around and you can get one for less than $100 and a head set and to have the head decked is less than 200 if you do it yourself.

white smoke is usually coolant. smell it while its idling. a HG is a big pIA but ## young, tough it out and change it LOL jk. ## car is still worth around 2700 bucks maybe 2400 on the low end. just ### its a gsx.
