Right now i drive a '03 Ford Focus ZX3. if anyone has ever told you focuses are fast, they are lying, and IMO deserve to be shot. It was a big mistake getting the focus. O well, thats life, but i want to fix the problem. Which is I WANT A TURBO GSX. So I have an $11,500 car that i want to sell, so I can get a GSX. Dad said "Not until I finish paying off the focus". Pretty much I want to know how to go about getting it. I owe my dad about $3G on the SLOWcus. I will have to wait untill I finish paying him off to sell it and get the GSX, this is understandable. I can have that done by mid-summer. But, (Big But), I will have to pay the difference in insurance between the focus and GSX, I will have to pay for any maintenance, and all that good stuff. So pretty much what all of this has been asking is.....how much is insuance, maintenance, and "all that good stuff" on the GSX. Is it a reliable car. You know, all these non-owner, newbie questions. Is it worth it? What should I do?
Thanx much guys,
Justin :thumb:

if you only get liability it's the same no matter what you drive.. its colision, full coverage etc. that very and on a GSX i would think if your not over 25 and i hope your not since it sounds like your still liveing at your parents house. It wont be cheap...

I only have and ever get liability i figure untill i get 5-8 grand in my car eh not worth it.. but as long as any wreck i get into is not my fault im fine  if it's my fault though as im sure you know liabilty only pays for the other car/truck... your SOL on yours... it comes out of YOUR own pocket if it's not totaled or dont cost to much to repair...

Well, you're a young fellow wanting a fast car, reading about them on a forum that talks about what's the best way to "launch" them and how to get another 1/10 sec shaved off the quarter-mile. How bad are you gonna beat it? If you think you want to be Don Prudhomme, they're hideously expensive cars. If you drive it like it's a Focus, and every other month step on the gas in such an unseemly manner that you find yourself going "woot" with surprise, they're extremely reliable for the performance they put out. Same as any car, they pretty much treat you the way you treat them. Kinda like women, but without so goddamned much unpredictability.

Stock for stock they seem to be very reliable cars. Just make sure maintenance is kept up with. Also, make sure that the car you buy was taken care of by the previous owners.

I've driven my car 7,000 miles in well under 3 months, and I haven't had any mechanical problems yet (Except one, but it was the lower ball joints, which was taken care of by a recall).

Also, I ran over a HUGE piece of debree on the highway going about 85. The car held up nicely against that. I am talking monstrous: the width took up the entire lane, it was maybe 3 feet long, and almost a foot tall. It happened so fast, and I couldn't really tell what it was.

keep the focus.

you don't want the money pit right now that a dsm can/will be. If you buy one, you'll catch the go fast bug, drop tons of money on parts, break shit. drop more money on fixing it, etc. etc. well, maybe it won't happen but you wanna risk it. You have a nice reliable car right now, that won't rule your life. buy a gsx and who knows what might happen, and it doesn't sound like your in a position to do a 6 bolt swap if your 2g crankwalks.

Ok, I'm 17 livng at home (duh) and making minimum wage. I have already caught the go fast bug. I hate how incredibly slow the focus is and how fast my friends '02 mustang GT is. If anyone out there knows what focaljet.com is, its like this site for focuses. ive been a member there for a while there and have done my research. i have determined that to get my focus into the 13's it would cost upwards of $6G. Thats a lot of money for a highschooler. I also am sick and tired of all the crap i get from people because i drive a focus. They handle really well, but Ford did a crappy job at matching the engine with the chassi. I also really like AWD. My friend has a WRX; Handles soooo well. but what i love about AWD is that there is no wheelspin. Also, i will be making many trips up to the mountains in summer and winter, so the turbo helps at high eevations and AWD means no stupid chains. The GSX that im looking into right now is a '98, 70000miles, and the guys specified that it doesnt have crankwalk problems. I take car of my car and my dads car almost better than i take car of my girlfriend;). I will only go WOT maybe 3-5 times a week, and only up to about 65. The only place i will push her is at the track. I here the AWD is really good for the 1320. I would be gettin full coverage on my insurance. right now i pay just over $200 a month for insuarnce. 17 yr. old males take it up the butt on insuarnce. Even with the good student discount. but thats how it goes. Thanx for all the advice, keep it comin.

If you want it, get it. Thats what I did but heres where I am now, crankwalked back in december still awaiting new 7 bolt while payments are still coming for another 3 years, and insurance is gonna rape me more when the car is on the road again. (got couple tickets in families g35). But hell man its ummm....worth it when its running.

I have a clean record and probably wont be gettin any tickets anytime soon. if i do, there always traffic school. Im a pretty safe driver and i dont speed too much (no more than 10 over the limit).
At 70,000 miles if its goin to crankwalk wouldnt it have done it by then? Im also only about 50% sure what crankwalk is, and i have no clue what the symptoms are and what to look for. I wont mod it to over 300hp. there is no point for me to. 300hp should put me down into the mid 13's right? So with 300hp in an AWD car that is babied most of the time, should it be reliable? im really leaning toward the GSX over the focus right now. If i dont get a GSX i will either get a different AWD car or a RWD car. Im tired of understeer.
Justin

A 300 hp awd dsm, probably wont be reliable, and in a 1g, at least, you can get into the 13's so damn cheaply, I have intake, 2.5" full exhaust, mbc at 14psi, and the car is kept in good tune.
I am assuming that I could pull low 14's all day long.
If you cant afford it break it, You cant afford to race it...

a lot of people have good luck with their dsms, but overall they are much more expensive to keep running than most cars. (ive had 2 eclipses cw.. and everyone knows theres no cheap way to fix that ;) also.. honestly.. it doesnt really matter how good your driving record is. your a male under the age of 25, your insurace on anything with a turbocharger (or any quick car for that matter) is going to be pretty monsterous.

I can vouch for that. I'm 18, and have never had a speeding ticket, and I pay almost a grand every 6 months for full coverage on my '93 GSX (I took out a loan to get it, so full coverage is required).

I pay $200 a month right now with the good student discount. Im goin to go test drive that '98 GSX to make sure its what i want. The guy told how he checked for crankwalk. I understood it, but forget the tools he used. it sounded very thourough. im test drivin it on tuesday, ill let u guys know how it went.
Justin

Get a non-turbo and then put a turbocharger on it, less cost. I pay 2k a year for a N/T, perfect driving record too, such bs
