Rust on the hatch

On my 2g, I have rust that is just starting to show through. It is where you would grab under the hatch to open it. Right in the middle. On the back side of it is where the rust started, but now it is coming though. I don't really wanna repaint yet, but what can I do to slow or even stop it. I don't care how the backside looks. I would grind that down and spray it with a sealant if you think that would be the best option, but what do you guys think?

You can see a speck right now, but it is getting bigger. It is rusted alot on the inside, but just a speck on the outside and it is bumped out a bit.

I have rust in the same exact spot. If you dont mind getting it painted just sand or grind it off

Spray some rust check or something similiar on it, that will slow it down.
