Portland,
I have a 95 GSX, runs drive perfect but its freaking got rust all over the place, well door and all the stuff is fine and motor, but literaly stuff is brakling off from RUST under the car, suspenshin area looks to be rusting prity good. I pulled off the back bumper and every bolt snaped cause of rust. What should I do? Is there people that specialise in fixing rust problems on cars??? Or is there a way I can fix this problem myslef? It would suck to be driving my fully moded GSX and fall through the floor onto the street going 140.

its alot more than just coating it with a simple thing its like 5 steps but yep itll stop the rust, goto there website and go to the tutorial or faq thing and theyll show ya everyhting you need to do

Im going to buy some myself unless any one knows a better way to fix this rust problem :thumb:

okay now that i seen this guy, i was looking at buying a project car its got a blown motor and a bad tranny. also their is rust on the rockers and the strut towers im not worried about the strut towers because my last dsm had it and i had a body shop welded in new peices what can they do for the rockers? or what can i do

don't try to fix by just paint or bonding over it.
my 97 gsx has lower quarter panel rust, i started tearing it apart and a huge and i mean huge piece of bondo fell off with rust on the back.
cut it off and weld some sheet metal onto it

If the rust is as bad as you say it is. than you have a couple options. I live in chicago and my first dsm had rust problems. pretty much alot of cars here do because of the salt. Thats why i bought a california car this time around.LOL

Anyways...like it was already stated you can strip the car get it acid dipped. thats big bucks and if your doing the work yourself time consuming.

my suggestion would be to buy a shell for 500-800 thats clean no rust or anything drop in your motor and trans your interior etc. and be done with it. youll save yourself the headaches of the cheap fixes that dont hold up and end up saving a ton of money.

And when you finish putting everything together. Jack up your car and clean evedrything underneath and buy 10 cans of the undercoating stuff from autozone and spray the shit out of it.Just my .02

Mind you I was In college: MATC Automotive paitn and re-finish I-Car program. Two options, #1: Do what these guys are telling you to do and cover the mess up. In WI here we have rust issues and hence the reason we make our rust proof cars also or we buy outta state cars. But back to the point ;) If your talking about the underside of the car as In suspension you need to be safe and RE WELDING the the strut tower mounts is not a good Idea anytime, I junk a nice 95 cause of rust issues. Do the poke test, Get all the flaky rust off, pirme with rust treatment(rubberized or acid). #2. Take all the rusty stuff off and replace with treatment. Rockers should be cut out if the rust if over 3.5in high from bottom to top Or any holes bigger than a quarter. Its worth the time trust me. Find a friend with a welder! You can also get side skirts if you want to head back to #1. Take your time and make a good choice! Hope I helped a little. search next time before asking, you will find tons of info on here!!!!

the salt from the roads is causing the rust you need to see if its cheaper to do the body work or get a shell and swap it

good luck florida has a lot of shells

You have to really look hard at the rusted areas, theres different kinds of rust some are worse than others. There is surface rust usually due to cracking paint and if your lucky you can just grind it off and reprime and paint. rusty bolts are common and usually not a huge issue, just tap out the broken bolts, shoot it with penetrating oil and replace the bolt. If rust isnt treated early enough it can get all the way through the layers of sheet metal and one it is flaking off its like cancer and gets bad fast, so your only hope is to start cutting holes and patching them with new metal or fiberglass. If the rust is on a structural component of the car you might need to replace the entire component... crossmember or strut tower etc.. if the repair bill is more than the car is worth and you cant get it to pass a safety inspection the car is a write off so the sooner you fix it the better or it might end up at the wrecker

Well I got a pic for ya. Bought my car from Chicago this summer. Just started rebuilding and tried to take the down pipe off. It looks like someone welded around the bolts. Sprayed PB blast all over them and not even budging.
