Hello.
I plan on going to the track with this car. The only mod on it so far is the intake and exhaust. It has a 3" exhaust , including the downpipe. Now I have removed the cat(Welded a 3" pipe in its place) and was rather happy with the results. I'm not looking for increased noise but for performance. Would I gain anything by removing the muffler as well, would that make the car too loud. Will it be too loud for street use?
Would it also make me spit flames while downshifting?

Thanks.

It really depends on what kind of muffler you have. If you have a straight through muffler there really isn't a point if there was any gain in doin that it probably wouldn't be enough to even notice. And as for spitting flames, it's very very doubtful. That's mostly just some "Fast and Furious" B.S. although i did have a buddy with a 2002 WRX that was able to do it every once in a while but it was just like a short fireball kind of thing and a loud pop. My advice is unless your using the stock muffler, which i don't think you are, just leave it on it's not gonna make a noticeable difference.

Don't laugh, but if you go back to american muscle, it will cut your sound. I tried a "ricer" muffler and it didn't help at all, I got pulled over way too much. I have nearly the same set up, no cat, 3 inch turbo back system, and i bought a cheap ass MAGNAFLOW (yes, i'm sorry) muffler, and it helped it a lot. It sounds bad ass too. Its deep, but its not a ricey sound.

magnaflow mufflers sound really really good on our cars. as far as your question no it polly wont be to loud since its turbo and the turbo muffles it allot... the flames is raw fuel being left in the cylinders after the sark plug fires there for it burns in the exhaust and spits fire, yes it can happen but it will only happen when you get on it really hard and then let off, to shift or something
