Hey guys. I just picked up a 99 eclipse gs spyder. I want to turn it into a mild sleeper because it's maroon with a beige top so I decided I would pull the turbo system off my tsi awd (that I think may be walking on me) and throw it on there until I work up the balls for an awd swap on it. Will my tsi awd run with the gs spyder ecu and injector resistor pack? What's the difficulty and requirements to turbo the 4g64? What boost can be safely run on it until I drop Compression and get forged internals?

Take some pictures of each car and post em up, it's easier to look at the job and figure things out then to have people start guessing based on descriptions. I personally didn't know you could put that turbo from the tsi on a gs. Others will probably chime in.

Matt

You can convert that engine to dual overhead cams and turbo. Basically if you already have a 2g AWD TSI car you can get a 2.4 AWD stroker out of this spyder. The head, needs to be swapped, there are a ton of threads on here about that, then injectors and turbo should bolt right up. Don't go over about 15 pounds boost with those stock injectors and 25 pounds with those stock internals but that will be enough to rock your world. You will have to up the size of those stock injectors and get a wide band and something to tune with.......
Do your homework and have fun.......

The head swap will require hyundai 4g64 cams and gears because of the longer stroke, if I'm not mistaken, and the sohc 4g64 has the same manifold bolt pattern. To turbo the spyder, all I'd have to do is pull my 4g63 oil filter housing, exhaust, turbo, injectors, fuel pump, injector resistor pack, ecu, knock sensor, oil pan, and then run coolant lines. All the parts should bolt right in. Could I just use the gs ecu and injector resistor pack in the 4g63 after I get high Compression pistons?

Whoah killer....

Yes, you can put a 4g63 head on a 4g64 and create a 2.4 stroker, but there are a few problems with your logic,

1. Because of the smaller combustion chambers in the 4g63 head and the higher compression pistons in the 4g64, you get a compression ratio of somewhere north of 10.5 to 1. (11.0 to 1 if memory serves. That could be a problem if you are not VERY careful.

2. Because of problem 1, the stock injectors would be very taxed to run this engine in a NON-turbo application, let alone with a turbo.

3. because of problem 2, 15psi is completely unrealistic.

4 because of problem 3, 25 psi is damn near impossible. (especially on those stock high compression pistions).

BUT, other than that, with some lower compression pistions, swapping in the turbo engine harness/sensors/ecu, and ECMLink (well, not necessary, but a damn good idea) a 4g63/64 2.4 hybrid is awesome.

Until you replace your 40th transmission from the low end torque it will generate :D

Haha. Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to do this soon and in small parts. Most likely hyundai dohc head first, followed swiftly by turbo and eventually, awd. I will for sure swap my link ecu and the injector resistor packs so it can be properly tuned and logged. I just want to rebuild the engine and 16g first.
