Aloha,
I am in the process of rebuilding my head right now and just had a quick question. During final assembly today, I was having trouble getting the rockers to seat because of the angle of the cam lobes at TDC. Eventually, after rotating the cams to change the lobe/rocker relationship, I was able to get all the rockers on. Everything seems to line up on the cam gears and the cams turn freely but... I was wondering if there was any way I could have screwed up on the rockers, can they even be put in wrong? Thanks for any help.
Peace,
Tony

Ok so everything doesn't quite line up...
With a straight edge across the cam gears I found the exhaust cam timing mark to be retarded 1/2 a tooth. I rotated the exhaust cam 6 full revolutions and observed the valves actuating in time; however, the timing mark did not line up on anyof the revolutions. I have rebuilt heads before not 4G's but up until now it has been straightforward. What am I missing here?
BTW-The head is still off the car, I dont want to install it until I have the cam timing issue resolved.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.
Aloha

You will find when putting on the timing belt the exh cam is sprung back a touch, just pull it aroud a touch to line up the exh cam first then line up the inlet the same they will line up. without the belt on the will rotate a bit because of the valve springs! is this what you were asking?
