rods going bad

So I got my car back from the garage and the mechanic is telling me that my rods are going out. He told me this only after starting the car up and driving it from the parking spot to the garage door(which is only about 100feet). Now I am not very mechanicly inclined but is that possible.Can he really tell that just by doing the little that he did. My car is making a knocking or it kinda sounds like a slapping noise but it sounds like it is high up in the engine, but he tells that it is the rods getting ready to go out. Does this sound right to and of you out there, it starts making the noise after it reaches over 2000 rpm's. HELP!!!!!!!!!

Call him up, tell him you aren't stupid and demand a detail explanation of what is going wrong and how he determined it. Then post that information here and we will tell you if he is a complete dick and that you should go elsewhere.

I am giving him a call right now.

According to the mechanic he said that he could tell just by the noise that it made. Now I have drove it home and even while drivng the noise doesn start until after 2000 rpm's. I thought lifters but changed them and the noise is still there so I just don't know thinking about new engine and rebuilding this one in my spare time.

By rods, he's meaning your bearing and yes you can hear that. I don't blame him for going into detail as you are not going to pay him to fix it so why should he bother. No offense to you OP but we get good at spotting the people that just want a diagnosis and then want to fix it themselves and you are honestly just a waste of our time :/.

Looks like you get to rebuild her though
