rod knock. Pleas Help

i just dynoed my car the other day bone stock. 170 whp, 208 wtrq. i hit 142 mph in 5th gear and it governed. i startd driving to autozone cuz she leaked some oil out the front main seal and noticed a knock, this is besides the lifter tick, sounded like a cam. took it the shop and they said one of my rods are going out. how long can i drive it or even drive it at all? wats the best and cheapest place to buy a 4g63 turbo engine? wuld it cost alot to swap a 1g engine in? any info is greatly appreciated. thanks!

Yeah the only people I have seen drive with rod knock because they thought I wasn that bad threw that rod thru the block. Makes for cool carnage parts in the garage but not so cool when it happens. No driving for you. Sorry.

I have had some people that go out and have it rebuilt with this part and that head but IMO I would just go out and get a JDM motor. They are fairly cheap and if you kill it then its just another 800 or so bucks, but they should last for 60k at the bare minimum. The only reason I could see building a motor would be if I wanted to go full tilt boogie and have everything forged. I cant really justify that because our motors are so strong stock that the amount of power that most want is very attainable with a stock bottom end.

i just planned on leaving it parked in front of my house until i save enough money. how hard is it to pull the rod caps off? are the jdm engines on ebay a good buy or is there a better place to buy from?

i personally would prefer to see and inspect a motor before i bought it.
i wouldnt buy one off ebay, but im also the kind of person who wouldnt buy anything from ebay.

What does knock sound like? dumb question I know, but if a motor ever started doing that would it be very noticeable?

theres the sound of the lifters ticking after i start the car up. then wen the engine gets to about 3k rmps the engine starts to knock pretty loudly, u can still hear the lifters tick wen it knocks. it started doing after i governed my car on a dynojet.

It sounds like a midget with a ice cream scoop banging on the inside of your motor.

I had a 97 eagle talon n/t a while back before I got my 91 awd and my 95 awd. I thought my lifters were going out and it was really rod knock which my friends and I found out. Being poor and needing to still drive, I drove on it for 7000 miles with the rod knocking. Pretty unbelievable but I sold it and 2 days later it blew. Of course another example was my friend ran 2 passes at the drag strip and started to hear his rod knocking, the car didn't make it home 5 miles before it blew. I wouldn't suggest driving it though.

how much do the evo engines cost? their has to be some of them around...maybe even used...can't be to old, or to many miles.

how hard wuld it be to install a jdm 1g 4g63t engine into my 95 talon tsi? wuld it be expensive or culd i use the parts off my 2g turbo engine? sum mechanics say they might not fit, but ive noticed many people here have done it. thanks for any info!
