I couldnt find anything revelant to using rod bolt stretch, although I know most guys on the forum use the method.

I have the ARP 2000s that come with Eagle rods. My gauge setup is a Proform.

One angry night, I started going into torquing the rod caps but didnt realize I was measuring the wrong way. For some reason I couldnt get the bolts to "stretch".

Now that I have that figured out, Im wondering if theres a standard length to the ARP bolts? When I measure all of mine they are within .007" of each other, but that doesnt help much when I didnt measure them all before the torquing. (the idiot moment)

Should I just go ahead and order new rod bolts (probably the preferred) or should I go off what they are measuring now and go for the .0055"-.0059" stretch? Mind you I may have overtorqued them a few ft/lbs and I dont want this engine to fall apart. :p

For peace of mind i would get yourself some new ones. They dont cost much and it will be one thing you wont be worried about. You could probably get away with the ones you have...but i would just opt for some new ones, im anal as hell about that kind of stuff though.

From the ARP website: This is the #1 problem stated for connecting rod failure.

1. Typical Tensile Overload

In a tensile overload failure the bolt will stretch and “neck down” prior to rupture. One of the fracture faces will form a cup and the other a cone. This type of failure indicates that either the bolt was inadequate for the installation or it was preloaded beyond the material’s yield point.

Go ahead and order new rod bolts. I ordered new ones long long time ago and it was $10 each. I don't know if the price is still the same.

Good stuff guys. That pretty much backs up what I was thinking. I know overloading them is a problem and Im not looking to take any chances.

I can get a set shipped to the house for $50. Outstanding.

Thanks for the help.

Bolts of this likeness that stretch more then 5 thou from original length should be junked.

ARP actually recommends to get new bolts with only .001" over original length. I guess I understand now why they need to be measured BEFORE they are torqued. :p

My import parts seller on eBaymotors.

I believe extremePSI has them for about the same price.

See thats why I love ARP. Thats something I would do. Because once it begins to stretch it loses strength. Always measure bolts instal when they are this important.

Now I have another hiccup in my build.

I was thinking the ARP2000s that came with the Eagle rods were the simple 1g rod bolts. Boy am I wrong. The ARP "1g rod bolts" are a bolt and nut while the Eagle ARP rod bolts are just a bolt with the other side of the rod threaded.

I searched the Eagle site with no luck so Ill end up calling them tomorrow - but does anyone know where can I pick up the same rod bolts that came with the Eagle rods?

I bought a set from Summit Racing last summer. Go to their web site and look up
ARP part # 200-6207 they are an exact replacement for the eagle rods for the 6 bolt engine. They have the ARP 2000 stamp on them. Just checked, they're in stock $64.39

Outstanding jydog, thats exactly what I needed. Although they cost ~$65 compared to ~$38 for the 1g bolts.

"Learn from your mistakes." they say.
