Rocker Panel Rust Repair!??

I have done the searches on google and the dsm sites I know of. I recently discovered rust eating away in front of my rear wheel inside the wheel well and into the rocker. I know using metal is the best way to replace it, I have a mig welder, and tools to fix it but I'm not sure on a couple things.

1. How to form the metal to the normal rocker panel shape.

2. Where to buy a rocker panel or replacement sheet metal to replace old metal.

3. What kind of finish work to do to the metal and underbody to prevent a reoccurance in the near future.

if you just going to do welding you need to sand all the rust away first and then your just going to have to bend the metal as best as possible or got to the junk yard and cut off a good peice from a good car and then weld that on to you yours and then repaint it.

If you decide to use a piece of sheet metal for a patch rather than cutting i piece off of a donor car, you can hammer the metal into the basic shape while it is hot from welding. then use some filler to fill in the minor imperfections. Then prime, undercoat, and paint.

Well thanks for the responses guys, I'm going to get some steel soon for patches, its snowing here lately it would be hard to find a good donor in 5 degree weather. Is there a gauge of steel you reccomend? Undercoat/ rust inhibitor products you reccomend?

You can go to the dealer and get the whole rocker panels, rear quater panels or whatever is bad. It's not always the cheapest but it's worth it if you want it to be right and not continue rotting.
