For years we've suffered at the hands of mother nature by only attending events on the shoulder seasons at Road America. For the last 5 years I've gone every spring and fall to the first and last events scheduled at Road America because they were much cheaper. But consequently, we've suffered through rain, snow, freezing rain, sleet, and sustained temps below freezing. Oh and snooty waiters tired of dealing with tourists.
I'll never forget the two ice zones this last April. In the braking zone before the Carousel and after Turn 5 there are two bridges. These bridges had 5 foot deep stretches of ice that ran the whole width of the track. There was no way to drive around it. We discovered the ice on the parade lap, so there was a little warning. It was easy enough to deal with the ice before the Carousel; just slow down earlier and slide straight through. However, the ice after Turn 5 was another matter. You couldn't really see it (black ice), you just felt the back end kick out at full throttle = 100+mph! WTF
------Well, NASA Midwest has secured a date for August 4th and 5th!------
Aug. 4th is even my birthday!
